Very nice old gastropub near Gatwick airport within easy walking distance of many B & B's in Horley. Pleasant rural setting, good food, draught beer and wine, friendly staff, good service and nice ambience. A great choice if you are staying overnight near the airport.

Believed to be the second oldest pub in the country, Ye Olde Six Bells dates all the way back to the 9th century and offers quality British cuisine from an extensive menu. The charming, shingle-roof country inn has been sympathetically restored, with some of its original features still intact, while the conservatory dining room offers stunning views of the Surrey countryside.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Ye Olde Six Bells menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while the ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

Neighbouring the grassy banks of the winding River Mole, Ye Olde Six Bells in Horley is just a 4-minute drive to Gatwick Airport.

Staff were very busy last night, but still the food was excellent. Cod, steaks and pies are really lovely.

Shown our table early and no pressure, we had a drink at the bar and took our seats at 13:00. Easy ordering and briefed on the soups etc by Katie and that the calamari starter was off but, no worries, we skipped the starter. Mains were great all round. Coffees for 2 of us and left at about 15:00. Great service and care from Katie. 10/10.

Very disappointed. We had to wait for 45 minutes before our meal was served.Other people who arrived after us had their meals served before us pretty quick after ordering. When our meals eventually arrived they were very good as usual. We eat quite a lot at this restaurant and the service is normally very good.

Excellent food attractively presented. Delicate Tempura coated Calamari, generous Roast Pork with a good vegetable selection and a delightful and attractive dessert platter to share.

The meal was ok, but I have a few comments. We ordered a starter of soup with crusty bread. The soup was nice, but not hot, as it should have been. Also, it arrived without the bread, and the watiress dashed away before we could say anything. We contacted another person and the bread arrived shortly after. I was disappointed, as 'crusty bread' means a piece of fresh bread to me, not a couple of thin strips of slightly stale bread! The main meal - I had the hunters chicken, which was nice but again not very hot. My partner is vegetarian, and found the choice of main meals very lacking in choice. Apart from fish, there was only one vegetarian main choice, or one vege burger. She had the sea bass, which was nice but overpriced at £16.99, judging by the amount of food on the plate. This restaurant is always busy, and your staff are rushed off their feet. The same appears to be true of your kitchen, in view of the quality of the food that come out. The whole impression I had was of everyone and everything being rushed, which is not how a good dining experience should be. A small improvement in your standards could add greatly to my satisfaction. Currently, we use your restaurant from time to time, but we will not be making it a priority as there are other restaurants we use in the area who offer a better, and in some cases cheaper, meal. For the same reason, it surprises me that this restaurant has the following it has.
