Very nice English afternoon tea. Everything was good except the tea leaves was left in the teapot so the tea became very bitter in the end

This was very disappointing. I booked it to take a friend for a 70th birthday. I mentioned that on the booking and whilst I didn't expect any extras every other restaurant or cafe I have been to has made some effort to recognise a special occasion. I also asked for 1 vegetarian meal. Of the 3 'cakes' given to my friend 2 contained animal gelatin. We had to ask and was told one was not vegetarian. Then asked again re the marshmallow and was told it did also. She was brought a 2nd piece of chocolate cake and 2 pieces of chocolate fudge. She unfortunately does not like chocolate cake so did not eat it. The sandwiches were cold and a bit soggy - spongy. The scones were not that nice either and nor were the cakes. I was embarrassed about it all as it was a special treat. The tea and coffee were fine. We had to book at 2pm later than we wanted as the cafe was closing for a big event as 3.30pm.. We did not leave until 3.45 and other guests were still there and others arriving just for coffee. So there it appeared there was no event. St Paul's Crypt tea room sounds lovely. It isn't really. There was no ambience or quaintness about it and the music was loud and not in keeping with the surroundings. I don't usually complain and certainly am not fussy but this was a really spoiled afternoon

The staff were delightful and attentive, we arrive early but this was not a problem and we were accommodated, having said that the restaurant only 2 other tables oppupied.
The scones were very dry which was a shame. The selection of cakes was disappointing there was what I can only describe as a chocolate brownie covered with hundred and thousands- something like I used to make with my children not what I expect at an afternoon tea serving, the other option was a toasted marshmallow and jelly cake thing. The sandwiches were well filled but cold and when we asked for more sandwiches we told there was a cost implication which we have never experienced with afternoon tea (and we have had several in various hotels and locations in London). The sparkling wine was nice as was the tea.The tea was not restricted and in fact we had another pot. If it hadn’t been for the staff member attending to us who as I said was delightful it would have been a disappointing afternoon. I would not recommend the afternoon tea.

Warm, inviting atmosphere in the crypt of the cathedral, friendly and efficient waitress and very tasty and great value afternoon tea. However you don't really get a traditional feel of the cathedral here because the decor, although very tastefully and beautifully designed, is modern and the music played is jazz!

We guessed at where the tea might be held ('The Crypt' was a bit of a giveaway) and we were met by a lovely guard at the door who, after checking our bags, directed us to the tea rooms. There was a great selection of tea and the sandwiches, scones and pastries were quite nice. We were treating a colleague who was about to go on maternity leave and this was a lovely way to mark the occasion. Great venue, great price and good food. I'd recommend it to anyone who would like to have tea without ostentation.

A very relaxed and enjoyable afternoon tea. The service was very friendly and helpful and the Bookatable deal was very good value.

We only came for afternoon tea. Although we were early we were welcomed and seated by a friendly waitress who was attentive throughout. The seating was adequate and in keeping with the surroundings of a 400 year old crypt. Tea was as expected with finger sandwiches, scones and cream, and small cakes. The only criticism was that they did not have lapsang souchong tea but there were others to choose from. In all a very pleasant interlude on a very cold day
