Awarded 2 AA Rosettes, The WinePress restaurant at Donnington Valley Hotel serves a diverse range of seasonal British cuisine complemented by over 400 wines by the glass. Amongst Berkshire’s green hills, Donnington Valley’s landscaped gardens are a delightful setting for al fresco dining, afternoon tea, or enjoying after-dinner cocktails.

At the heart of the kitchen is Head Chef Kevin Barrett. Having spent 4 years at Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons under Raymond Blanc, Kevin has created some exciting seasonal menus. Dishes include mouth-watering venison with smoked potato, red cabbage and almond crumble, and Newlyn plaice with Devon crab and potato risotto. To finish you can enjoy bitter chocolate pave with salted almond caramel and clotted cream.

WinePress dining takes place in an informal, bright space with vaulted beams straddling the spacious balcony-lined dining room.

A country location not far from town, WinePress Restaurant at Donnington Valley Hotel is a 7-minute drive from Newbury Train Station.

Lovely restaurant where we had cream tea. Only downside was having to ask three times for the milk to go with the tea.

Disappointing, far too much inedible fat on the £58 Cote de Beuf

I was rather disappointed. The bread had bits of crusts on and were not very fresh. The scones were lovely, but then given another small one in the cake selection?
The staff were pleasant but not very attentive at all. We were only asked once if we wanted a drink once our food came. Lots of staff, but lots of talking amongst themselves, not customers.

We only attended for Sunday afternoon tea which was fine, did just feel that a little more could be made of the "event", we chose Tea rather than a celebratory meal in the evening, quality was fine the Birthday greetings plate for my wife a nice thought, just felt with a little extra thought the Hotel could make more of Afternoon Tea than it did, not just for us but for all guests.

For unexplained reasons, the " Special tea " I had ordered for two was a real shambles, late, poor food with crumbling stale sandwiches, and numerous attempts by foreign staff to rectify poor and late service. The Hotel knows it did very badly; if I had'nt had other reasons for being there, I would have cancelled my booking and demanded my so-called ' Tea " was free'

We dined on 2 evenings and would point out the following which I also advised reception on checking out:
The wine waiter Chris, would not open the wine at the table and instead opened it out of view and tasted the wine. Something we found very odd, his attitude was poor.
We had to send back several meals either because they were wrong, not cooked or not what was asked for.
The service was slow and we were not asked if everything was ok at any time despite the problems.
The charging and supplements were very confusing and so when the bill arrived it was so vague it was not possible to be sure that we had been credited for the wrong or poorly cooked meals.
