Excellent pre-theatre dinner. Nice choice of dishes. Service is a lot quicker than it used to be.

An elegant fine dining spot in the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon, No 44 is a majestic string in the bow of the 4-star Arden Hotel. The freshest, seasonal ingredients are incorporated into a menu of modern European dishes, served in a chic and contemporary setting by the River Avon.

Rich and flavourful dishes on the No 44 menu include duck ‘two ways’, combining roast duck breast with confit duck leg pie, with accompanying chicory and orange puree. There’s pan-fried hake with pearl barley risotto, crab gnocchi and a crab and ginger sauce, while desserts include a wickedly delicious chocolate fondant with pistachio ice cream and a chocolate sauce.

No 44 at The Arden Hotel in Stratford boasts its own sophisticated champagne bar. Large arched windows flood natural light into the restaurant’s pastel interior, creating a bright and relaxed dining space.

No 44 at The Arden Hotel neighbours the Royal Shakespeare Company theatres, and looks out over the River Avon.

Delicious food! Very attentive service. Could have had a better choice of adult non alcoholic drinks (e.g. Seedlip, etc). Lovely evening.

This was the third time we've dined at the Arden from the summer / tapas menu. before going across the road to the theatre. The food is always very good, the service not quite so good. However, with a nudge or two we have always managed to pay the bill and get to our seats on time. This is the only negative point I'd pick up, and I'm sure it is easily rectified (with a nudge).

Stayed for 2 nights at The Arden and ate at No 44 both nights, once from the a la carte menu and the other from the small plates option. On both occasions we couldn't fault the food, the venue or the staff. I have to give special mention to the staff in fact, they went out of their way to make our anniversary meal very special indeed.

Our visit was for afternoon tea, which we both enjoyed very much. We were greeted by friendly staff who showed us to our table. We were offered numerous choices of teas and also coffee or other drinks were available. The food was first class and we were given as much time as we needed to eat our food. The staff were very attentive and helpful at all times during our visit.

I booked afternoon tea for a treat for my friend for her birthday. Having had lots of afternoon teas I think this one was my least favourite.

We had three finger sandwiches and one quarter of a rye bread sandwich. There was hardly any filling in the sandwiches and they looked very uninviting, presentation poor! The desserts were presented nicely on a cake stand.

I found it strange that the waitress first asked if we had a voucher (we hadn’t) told us the price and said ‘if that’s too much to pay you can share one’. Whilst I have heard of the concept of sharing a tea, in our opinion there wasn’t enough food to share and also we felt insulted that she felt the twenty odd pounds was out of our price range. I’m sure there was a better way to put this!

All in all, nice place but wouldn’t recommend the afternoon tea unless you’re really not hungry. There’s better, more imaginative teas around.

Staff very polite and friendly food was very good but but a bit over priced in my view The room was clean and comfortable and we would stay there again The car park we found hard to find

good food - we loved the cod and lentils. Tapas is very small. The service was very slow - we had to nudge them three times. It took forty minutes for us to receive any food at all! One waiter told us that tapas meant that we got the food when it was ready in the kitchen! How it took forty minutes to boil some tenderstem broccoli I have no idea! We were on the verge of buying some bread to tide us over!! (bread is not free)
Also cleaning the table meant sweeping the crumbs onto the floor - one of the waitresses came to clear the table and merely cleaned it by using her apron as the sweeper! a novel approach!
However as I say when the food arrived it was delicious. tagliatteli with crab, aubergine with mushroom, cod with lentils, chips, tenderstem broccoli and hummous, pesto and tomato dips with toast. Also a novel italian pudding - mille feuiles with dark chocolate together with hazelnut and marmite ice cream.

The room where we had afternoon tea was lovely. The staff were friendly and polite. The sandwiches were not up to standard. We actually complained because we found a piece of gristle in one of the coronation chicken sandwiches. They offered us more cakes but we had plenty (beautiful cakes) we actually asked them for three complementary glasses of Prosecco instead and they agreed. There was a 10% surcharge on the bill after which I think they should have wiped off.
