VOC Restaurant and Bar is tucked under an archway in King’s Cross. Unique cocktails, an eclectic menu, and a homely, speakeasy-style feel have made VOC a popular city-centre haven since launching in 2009.
The VOC menu transports diners to different regions of the world, with a focus on adventure and discovery. Expect small sharing plates inspired by the spice routes and an emphasis on sharing and communal dining.
The bar at VOC specialises in bespoke cocktails based on centuries-old recipes, brought to life with modern mixology techniques. The bar itself is as unique as the drinks list, with cocktail barrels suspended from the ceiling, huge church candles and exposed brickwork.
Tucked away behind King’s Cross Station, VOC Bar London has an enviable location which puts the whole of the city within easy reach.

Great cocktails and good food. A cosy little venue tucked away in Kings cross.

Great location, very close to King's Cross Station. There were a few people at the bar but only one other table in the restaurant was being used. Unusual to be somewhere so quiet on a Saturday night in London, and while it meant the service was great, the atmosphere was really lacking. The food sounded really interesting as described on the menu and we were looking forward to eating the various small plates but most of it was fairly disappointing.

I wasn’t going to bother complaining but seeing as this has popped up in my inbox, here goes: firstly there was a yellow box heater emitting the most horrible smell - electrical burning. In the end we had to ask the manager to turn it off as it was really pungent. The dining experience was really bizarre as 75% of our dishes were lovely but the ‘Patatas Bravas’ consisted of peeled over cooked new potatoes, chopped peppers and, worst of all, cold halved cherry tomatoes! No sauce or crispy potatoes. As I’m sure you must know that is not patatas bravas. I did mention to the (very nice) waitress on the night. Also while one of our desserts was lovely - a choc tart - the Eton Mess was again absolutely awful - broken up supermarket meringue nest with what I would swear was squirty cream from a can. Just horrible. We joked that there was a good chef and a terrible one in the kitchen as the contrast between the good and awful dishes was marked. Finally, it was absolutely FREEZING on the way to and in the loos. I’m sorry for the negative review but I think you should know. Thanks.

Really not a good meal or experience. Cold air-con (in December) so all of the sharing plates got cold before we could eat them. Not helped by the fact they all turned up at the same time rather than in a steady flow. I had a steak that was so crusted in salt it could have been preserved. Uncomfortable atmosphere and not authentic.

We chose the VOC because we needed to be somewhere close to the station and in that respect it's in a great spot tucked away from the main road in a quietish courtyard. All in all it was an enjoyable experience; tasty, well-presented food in a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere but I couldn't award five stars because of two things: we asked if they served Irish coffees and after hesitating the waitress said 'yes'. Irish coffees were made but they didn't resemble an Irish coffee. Also, we had trouble getting in. Two men on the door, which seemed to be locked, asked if we had ID (we're all in our 40s) but I think they were just customers who were 'having a bit of fun'. Not fun if it's freezing outside, so the VOC need to sort that out. I would recommend if you're in the area, but I wouldn't travel out of my way to get there.

I booked a table late on Friday afternoon which was really easy to do, its a bit hard to find but called restaurant and a very polite lady gave me direction to which she was waving at me though the window and still giving me direction very helpful indeed when arriving at restaurant/bar told them I had booked a table and got a tab instantly from the bar tender no question/card asked for, we sat down @ 20.00 and a very kind and polite waitress was at our service explaining how the menu worked we decided on 4no tasters 1st which all I can say were 1st class Michelin style, and with the wine we ordered with our main coarse was absolutely fantastic. all I can say we will be back very shortly I have passed this on to a lot of my colleagues for them to try. PS well done for a great evening to you and your fabulous staff a hidden gem if I say so myself..
