Lovely restaurant, dining room itself is very stylish but under-stated. All the extras nicely done, including nibbles with drinks and super bread. Starters at lunchtime were cod goujons and crab/langoustine, both excellent. Both had steak au poivre, lacking in character, both served medium (at best) though asked for medium rare. Would have sent them back but the pepper sauce was nicely done and the steaks themselves tender. Service haphazard. Waited 10 minutes for menus, despite only two other people there at that point, then wrong ones arrived, dinner rather than lunch! Waited some more, then lunch menus arrived. Champagne was excellent We had noted 1 gluten free on the booking form, but no one picked up on this, at any stage! But not a problem. Rather abandoned after the main course, had dessert menus but no one came to take an order so after 20 mins just had coffee. Super wine list, had the La Vierge pn, excellent.

Every single thing was exquisite, from the canapés through to the petit fours with coffee. Very rarely these days is this the case. The decor in the lounges restful, gently uplifting in the dining areas and calming in the loo - all done to a very high standard. Staff were attentive and warm without any fuss. Overall a perfect evening.

Very mixed experience as far as food was concerned. I enjoyed the three courses, the main in particular but do not feel it was value for money. My wife had two courses, the first she felt was very bland and she did not enjoy the main course of duck breast which was chewy and lacked a crisp skin. Definitely poor value. I have to praise the two young people who waited on - they were very professional and attentive which made up for the lack of atmosphere in the dining room. Overall it's unlikely we would visit again. As a matter of interest, the photos and recipes in 2009 Bryan Webb's book show very little has changed. The decor is still the same and many of the recipes were still used.
