In an impressive Georgian building, Turquoise Thistle Restaurant at Hotel Indigo offers elegant Scottish cuisine and supreme fish and seafood. Expansive sash windows fill the dining room with light, and offer views out onto historic Edinburgh.
Sourcing supreme produce, the Turquoise menu spans from moreish breakfasts and lunches, through to refined dinner. Premium meat cuts are served from the sizzling grill, including succulent 35-day aged Buccleuch steaks, or grilled fish of the day from the freshest catches. Creative treats for dessert at Turquoise restaurant in Edinburgh include the Turquoise tuck shop filled with retro cakes and sweets, or chocolate and salted caramel fondant with pistachio ice cream.
An innovative afternoon tea showcases Thistle’s very own tea blend, delicious twists on traditional finger sandwiches, dainty macarons, fruit tarts and traditional Scottish shortbread. The saving grace is the good manager. There is a new menu, we had booked on basis of old menu. The starters were good. Broth was excellent and smoked salmon went well with the accompaniment. After being g initially worried at the absence of clientele ( onLy 2 others at 8 on a Saturday) thought maybe just new.
Main courses were not good. The frankfurter thing was a baguette on two sausages. Decent chips and homemade coleslaw did not make up for it. The vegetarian croquettes were awful. And just served on their own in s plate.
To be fair the manager fealty with it well. The new menu needs seriously relieved. No chicken dish. More a snack than restaurant menu.

Hotel decor was lovely pity about the food which was not.We had fish and chips which was frozen Very disappointed Will not be going back

Our experience this time was very disappointing. I had booked via e-mail a month in advance and had a quick confirmation e-mail by the next day. I had stipulated 2 of our party were vegetarian and there should be no nuts, seeds, fish or whole wheat , due to dietary needs. Then 5 days before our reservation I had phoned and added an extra person who had no such requirements so that made 3 of us with no dietary needs, and was given the impression that my previous requirements had been taken note of.
Unfortunately there was a complete breakdown in communication.
At the start they were only expecting 4 of us, so we had to wait for the table to be set up for 5. We ordered drinks which arrived quite quickly but it was over 1/2 an hour before our food started to arrive. The vegetarian plate was the first to arrive but had brown bread and salmon included in the sandwiches. Also the cakes included macaroons and a pastry which had coconut on it. Therefore 4 of the things I had stipulated not to have.
Previous visits over the last few years have been impressive by the standard of fare on offer. This time there were no dainty croissants , blinis or wee rolls but sandwiches which looked to be thrown together, not even cut into quarters but rough halves. They were tasty but they were not pleasing to the eye. The cakes were all very nice but we wondered where our scones had got too, as we had been given jam and cream. During the time we initially waited for our food to arrive, there was ample opportunity to bake a fresh batch of plain scones. The ones we were presented with were obviously shop bought and fruit with a warning that they might contain NUTS and only 4 on the plate. At this point we discovered that the cream was OFF.
I spoke to the person in charge and when I went to settle the bill 2 of the Afternoon teas had been deducted. As I complained that having had problems with all of the meals a further deduction was given.

The restaurant's atmosphere was pleasant. The staff were attentive, friendly. The afternoon tea was good and chef was happy to tweek the sandwiches to suit our needs. The staff left us to chat and stay until we felt it time to leave.

Great little restaurant. Fantastic Scottish tapas. Service received was excellent and a very personal touch bringing out a surprise desert slate celebrating our 1 year wedding anniversary. This was a complete shock and a very nice touch. Good was also very good.

Servers were very pleasant and welcoming. Choices were great. Can reccomend the chicken liver pate. Very enjoyable meal in a lovely relaxed atmosphere.

Pleasant and attentive staff, soup could have been a bit hotter otherwise food was good. Cannot comment on service as we were the only two people in the restaurant so difficult to establish how they would cope with full covers. Great interior decor.
