Tulse Hill Hotel is a wonderful gastropub with the most amazingly friendly staff. It comes into it's own on Sunday lunchtimes when it is buzzing with life and serving some seriously meaty portions of food. The cote de boeuf (£50 for two) is a fantastic experience and well worth the price. Each dish is well crafted and full of love - nothing to be disappointed about here. Just as good are the wine choices; THH prides itself on the selection of organic and biodynamic wines and I don't think we've had a disappointing one yet.

Good food. Space about tables tight

It took a while for us to get to our reserved table but it was very busy this close to Christmas so that was understandable. On the whole the table service was excellent and the staff were lovely. My pork was a bit overdone but the rest of my group loved their food. Just needed a few more high chairs as we had to wait until halfway through the meal to get one and the other two arrived after the meal but again I think this is due to the Christmas rush.

Generally the restaurant was a friendly, welcoming place and the service good. I am a vegetarian and there were two choices of main courses which is better than most menus. My chillied red bean and avocado dish was delicious and hot which I like. I did think that £12.50 was over priced for a small vegetarian dish though. Good choice of sweets. Our party of five really enjoyed our lunch, it was £30 each with service charge for two courses and two glasses of wine each.

Oh no! I was a bit disappointed! Lots of good points, like the crab gratin. Could have eaten 7. But the pigeon and squash main course was really dreadful. Tough as anything. Drowned in rich sauce to the point of soup, with no carbohydrate apart from a few cubes of squash which were overwhelmed by the sauce. Madeleines for pudding were pretty good and salted caramel sauce was lovely but the chocolate sauce was thin and a bit lacking. Really wanted to like this place as I had heard such great things!

Have been impressed by the reliability of producing the same dish (had fish and hand cut chips) 2 x now and each time the food was fresh, crunchy batter and delicious mushy peas and tasted delicious!.

Starter (the salad) was delicious, as was the cloudy white wine recommended by the waitress. The steak was good but the board it was served on impractical - juices ran everywhere. The fish was pretty good too. The dessert (pumpkin and amaretto tart) very disappointing - cold, flabby, bland. The ambience ok - the decor could be a little more stylish. Service great.
