Right on the sea front and offering views out across the water, Toby Carvery Thorpe Bay serves up a feast of Sunday roast delicacies all week long. There are menus for children, indulgent desserts, and al fresco seating to enjoy the sea air.

Featuring classic British roasts every day of the week, the Toby Carvery menu is renowned for its crowd-pleasing selection. Choose from juicy, slow-cooked meats, seasonal vegetables and hand-ruffled potatoes (with each one checked to make sure it’s gorgeously crispy). Tempting alternatives at this Toby Carvery in Southend include allotment pie, and salmon with coriander and lime, while a varied vegetarian range includes the broccoli & brie parcel.

Old-school puddings are always on offer at Toby Carvery pubs, with famous signature crumbles served alongside chocolate & cherry torte, and baked vanilla cheesecake. The drinks list features beers, ciders, wines and soft drinks, and full-works, all-you-can-eat breakfasts are served each day.

A great family-friendly spot next to the sea, Toby Carvery Thorpe Bay is a 6-minute drive from Southend East Rail Station.

Lovely staff. Helpful and friendly. Disappointed there was no marmalade at all though! Breakfast without marmalade is not acceptable, hence only giving 4 stars.

It was a lovely lunch and plenty of vegetable choices

Arrived 10 minutes before booking but nowhere to sit until table ready because every table and chair is given over to those who are dining. So, stood for nearly 20 minutes before being shown to table. Queue for food was so long and so slow moving so more standing around. The meat was good, vegetables were fresh looking and cooked well, not soggy or sloppy. Very nice in fact. Roast potatoes were another matter: Greasy instead of crispy and not fluffy inside.
Waitress was too attentive and twice interrupted our conversation. I do not like this modern thing of being asked every 5 minutes if everything is ok, I will let you know if it isn't.
Overall, not a particularly nice visit so if I went again it would be on a weekday, never on a Sunday to quote an old song. I know kids can't be banned but many are a nuisance with no table manners and they waste an awful lot of food, but then so do some of the adults.
