Housed within the Waltham Abbey Marriott Hotel in a leafy area of Essex, Cast Iron Grill offers international cuisine in sophisticated surroundings. Offsetting the elegant dining space, the open kitchen brings an exciting, lively feel, and al fresco dining is offered in warmer weather.

Championing the finest seasonal ingredients, the Cast Iron Grill menu blends classic flavour combinations with tried-and-tested cooking methods, with a range spanning from lighter bites, to hearty mains. Trusty favourites include the signature hand-pressed burger, while globe-trotting recipes include the Odeiga-spiced chicken hoagie, and charred cauliflower tabbouleh.

Juicy, 28-day-aged cuts of premium British beef lead the impressive range of steaks and grills, and Cast Iron’s toffee & ginger skillet pudding offers an indulgent conclusion. Hand-picked wines are sourced from across the globe, and a list of heady cocktails includes mixes like the Old Cuban, and a pink-hued G&T.

Cast Iron Grill Waltham Abbey is close to Stansted Airport with a direct Central Line Tube link into London.

Food was nice. Both had a club salad which was well presented and tasty. Expensive though.
Restaurant is quite uninspiring but it is a modern hotel.
Service was average even though it was quiet.

Good food, service not so great. Our greeting was abrubt, asked for a desert menu but this was not given to us. We were sat waiting for 30 mins. After which we decided to get up and walk to the till to settle the bill. The lady printed it off and handed to us without saying a word. May be good on other days depending on who serves you.

We went to the Sunday Carvery , good food, good selection, presented well , nice ambience, friendly staff , the food is good value . However at the time of paying the bill at the desk 12.5 percent was added to the bill without staff pointing this out to my cousin. (Who paid the bill)... He then gave another tip on top , which the staff accepted . We were also not Asked what size drinks we wanted , and were given large . We do not have a problem tipping , but would like to give an amount of our choice . Will definitely use The Thyme again , and recommend it to friends , but warn them of the service charge .

A lovely relaxed dining experience. We had the 10oz rump steak which was cooked to perfection and tasted divine. It was served with home made thick chips a salad garnish and a slow cooked tomato.

Nice staff. Comfortable dining and nice decor. Food slow. Quality just "ok". Kids menu was nice. Coffee in bar area very expensive!

Firstly.....The Marriott/Thyme restaurant really need to advertise what is available. Went on Sunday for lunch as we were attending an event there so booked to have lunch. Absolutely no mention of the Carvery or prices outside the restaurant, on the menu, in the hotel reception or locally....
We ate at 2.30pm no yorkshire puddings left (no apology from server just a shoulder shrug) .......... only a spoonful or roasted new potatoes (not proper roasts) and a few soggy ones sitting in about an inch of oil in a covered hot dish....... No green veg apart from broccoli & cauliflower in cheese sauce ............... the beef was very thickly cut but tender and cooked medium. Desserts were fine, soup ok, salad bar could have a bit more choice (tomatoes/cucumber??).

This could be extremely good value for money at £14.95 for three courses, but taking the above into account really not what you would expect from a 4* hotel.
The waitressing staff and restaurant manager were lovely, but the kitchen/serving staff need improvement.................. :(

one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. The restaurant was nearly empty when I arrived at 7pm so with a ratio of nearly one waiter per customer it took 40 mins to get a drink and nearly 3 hours for a two course meal
