Fantastic. Made to feel special. With champagne thought it was good value for money

The only Tudor castle in England to be run as a hotel, Thornbury Castle is an historic building which once played host to Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. Classic heritage cuisine is served in the hexagonal-panelled main dining room, with its heavy oil paintings and roaring fires.

Modern internationally-inspired dishes are combined with traditional favourites, created using only the finest and freshest ingredients, sourced from the castle’s own gardens, local markets and nearby suppliers. Highlights on the Thornbury Castle menu include poached & grilled veal rump with smoked garlic, gnocchi, olives, broad beans & foie gras, tomato & courgette pesto risotto with walnut, parmesan & rainbow radish, and glazed lemon verbena tart with raspberry, elderflower & sherbet for dessert.

The Castle cellars hold an award-winning selection of vintage & carefully-selected New World varieties, as well as wine from the castle’s own 500-year-old vineyard. Hearty roasts are served every Sunday.

Thornbury Castle in Bristol is a 15-minute drive from Patchway Rail Station.

Overall outstanding - food, service and experience. The castle is a terrific atmosphere, steeped in royal history. We enjoyed a cocktail in the lounge while viewing the menu. We had venison and brill. Both were outstanding. I highly recommend this experience to everyone.

Took my daughter and granddaughter for afternoon tea. It was so lovely. My 8 year old granddaughter was so happy and really enjoyed the castle surroundings. The tea was delicious and so much food. Delicious sandwiches scones and cakes and a lovely pot of tea. Only slight issue was the sandwiches, which were lovely for my daughter and myself but were an acquired taste for an 8 year old but she just made for it with scones!
Lovely touch giving us a cake box to take home what we didn’t eat. Much appreciated by my grandsons when we got home

Very good front of house service but a very limited lunchtime menu. Food was OK but nothing special and it was very expensive for what we had. Wine was overpriced as was the coffee. The place flatters to deceive, historic it may be but that's about it.

This is the first time I have visited Thornbury Castle and I must say that I had such a lovely time I would recommend the castle to my friends and family. The staff was very pleasant and even took time to explain the ingredients in the afternoon tea as my daughter is pregnant. What a fabulous place with excellent service, I am hoping to return soon

This is a lovely place to visit for a special occasion. Thornbury Castle offers a really high standard of fine dining for the price. We have visited on and off for many years; my only criticisms are that it is a shame you charge extra for vegetables (I appreciate these are an 'extra' but feel you would even be better to include them and increase the set menu price a bit). I also think it would be really nice if you had a more formal dress code in the dining room - it may be old fashioned but would just add to the experience.

We had the champagne cream tea. I was disappointed not to be asked if we had any allergies at the start. I found the scone slightly dry and had to ask if it came with cream and jam as it wasn’t on the table.

Staff very good but the set lunch menu, to be eaten at a table in the dining room, was less attractive than the “lounge menu”. The lounge menu was supposed to be eaten in soft seats and at coffee tables. We were “given permission” to choose from the lounge menu and eat in the dining room. Howe EE, this all seemed very strange. In previous years there were more options at lunch time to be eaten in the restaurant.

Having said that, the crab linguine was dry with little crab meat, and the burger was also dry and very salty. We had to wait ages for the bread and butter pudding - but it was almost laughable how small it was after a such long anticipation. Sadly, that was our final visit to this once fine dining venue.
