The only Tudor castle in England to be run as a hotel, Thornbury Castle is an historic building which once played host to Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. Classic heritage cuisine is served in the hexagonal-panelled main dining room, with its heavy oil paintings and roaring fires.

Modern internationally-inspired dishes are combined with traditional favourites, created using only the finest and freshest ingredients, sourced from the castle’s own gardens, local markets and nearby suppliers. Highlights on the Thornbury Castle menu include poached & grilled veal rump with smoked garlic, gnocchi, olives, broad beans & foie gras, tomato & courgette pesto risotto with walnut, parmesan & rainbow radish, and glazed lemon verbena tart with raspberry, elderflower & sherbet for dessert.

The Castle cellars hold an award-winning selection of vintage & carefully-selected New World varieties, as well as wine from the castle’s own 500-year-old vineyard. Hearty roasts are served every Sunday.

Thornbury Castle in Bristol is a 15-minute drive from Patchway Rail Station.

We had the tasting menu with a wine pairing. We felt a bit rushed. Before we got a chance to finish our wine, we already had the next one on the table. The service was friendly but a sommelier or someone with a bit more knowledge would have been great.
Food was nice but the portions were tiny. Even if the menu consists of 6 dishes, at least one of the needs to be a secent size. Food was nice, the canapés served before dinner were excellent.
    Lovely venue and athmosphere.

Arrived at the wonderful castle setting. All the staff were welcoming and friendly. We had to wait for around 30 minutes as a wedding overran, which was not ideal but were taken to an old room with a nice fireplace and offered drinks. We had already ordered the 3 course meal, which started to arrive promptly with a complimentary starter, which is always a good touch. The staff popped in and out of the room and asked how everything was going. The food was certainly exceptional but I do think it could have been slightly better. I am talking about making something really good just that little better. Maybe the beef was slightly over cooked and not all on the plate tasted really good. Do check this place out though. The overall experience is certainly one to remember.

What a lovely afternoon. We arrived early and enjoyed a walk around the castle walked garden in the beautiful spring sunshine. We had our afternoon tea in the dining room as this was thought by the staff to be a better option for my 92 year old father. How right they were! He would have found sitting on and eating from the extremely comfortable sofas in the lounge rather difficult but enjoyed time relaxing in the beautiful lounge after we’d eaten. The afternoon tea was one of the best I’d ever had (and I’m a lover of afternoon tea!). The service was excellent and discreet. The food was of the highest standard especially the selection of cakes - the gooseberry one was AMAZING! The ambience of the dining room was excellent and enabled us to chat, laugh and wonder around looking at the historical artifacts without feeling we were disturbing any other guests. All in all a wonderful afternoon was enjoyed by my father, brother and sister in law and myself. Thank you Thornbury Castle.

Really lovely setting. Service was good. The quality of the food was disappointing. Have had far better afternoon teas. Just felt a bit lazy.

We had booked for Afternoon Tea. The castle is lovely - old, beautifully decorated and furnished. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Waiting staff for afternoon tea were scarce - we had to go and find someone to get drink refills. Disappointed that sandwich refills weren't available although the 4 finger sandwiches provided were good. Scones were excellent but had to ask for more clotted cream which appeared to have been begrudgingly provided. Cakes were a huge disappointment. The waiter claimed that the on-site chef had prepared them but I have my doubts, they looked and tasted mass-produced.

Very helpful staff. The food was amazing! It was my Dad's birthday and they surprised us with some chocolate! That was really very thoughtful. It was my first time here and will definitely come back.

An excellent experience all round, super service, great food/drink, surprisingly small bill! Couldn’t fault it. Recommendations below are based only on our experience, lunch and a cream tea...
