The only Tudor castle in England to be run as a hotel, Thornbury Castle is an historic building which once played host to Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. Classic heritage cuisine is served in the hexagonal-panelled main dining room, with its heavy oil paintings and roaring fires.

Modern internationally-inspired dishes are combined with traditional favourites, created using only the finest and freshest ingredients, sourced from the castle’s own gardens, local markets and nearby suppliers. Highlights on the Thornbury Castle menu include poached & grilled veal rump with smoked garlic, gnocchi, olives, broad beans & foie gras, tomato & courgette pesto risotto with walnut, parmesan & rainbow radish, and glazed lemon verbena tart with raspberry, elderflower & sherbet for dessert.

The Castle cellars hold an award-winning selection of vintage & carefully-selected New World varieties, as well as wine from the castle’s own 500-year-old vineyard. Hearty roasts are served every Sunday.

Thornbury Castle in Bristol is a 15-minute drive from Patchway Rail Station.

We ate here as part of a DBB package staying at the hotel.Complimentary canapes were served in the lounge area before dinner, and an amuse bouche arrived at the table before our starters. All the food served was attractively presented and tasted as good as it looked. The serving staff (Pedro) was extremely attentive and looked after us in a very friendly manner throughout the duration of our evening in the restaurant.

We had a excellent lunch and the service was excellent - the waitress was lovely and was very attentive to mum, who was celebrating her 88th birthday. We thoroughly enjoyed the day. By way of feedback to chef, we would suggest a different presentation of the chocolate mousse, as lovely as it was....

Quite disappointed with the tea we we on a very small sofa which hardly seated two and asked to move. The tea was quite basic compared to others we have had and the scones were cold.
The room seemed to be an arrival bay for guests and so was not peaceful.

A wonderful peaceful setting. Liked that tables not crammed in. Friendly service. Especially nice scones but sandwiches and cakes of high standard, and excellent range of teas - quick to top up coffee too.

The food at Thornbury Castle was excellent as usual. The staff attentive, friendly and very polite. The history of The Castle and the ambience always adds to this wonderful dining experience.

We booked because we expected a really special meal but all three of us were disappointed with the whole experience. We ordered the soup (for 2) which was cold and very little of it and the fish cake which was OK but not spectacularly so. We all ordered the beef and again, it was not what we expected. It was presented in a brick like form and shredded as if cooked for a very long time (like pulled pork). The carrots were few and hard and there was a very small amount of kale and gravy. For dessert we had cheescake which could not have been cut any smaller. The raspberry sauce turned out to be a sorbet which the best part of the meal.
