A very short break to Edinburgh with my husband, to revisit old haunts from 18yrs ago. A perfect day, to be completed with dinner at the Witchery. Having read reviews, we were steered towards the set menu. Unfortunately, the waiter crashed into the table with our mains 'lamb cutlets', whilst serving and our bottle of Bordeaux spilt over the table, just missing my husband, but no offer of redressing the table or replacement of the wine. Putting that aside, I found the lamb to be of poor quality, which I left choosing not to battle with it. Sadly, clients are cramped into what is a beautiful environment. Generally, we were very disappointed. Marginally tempered by a very small discount. We won't be revisiting.

Impressive ambience. The pumpkin starter was bland.

A nice atmosphere in a candlelit restaurant; we ate in the secret garden part (not sure the garden is all it's cracked up to be though!). The staff were courteous and professional, the wine list was huge, the food was very good (we ate from the set lunch menu), tasty and hearty.

The witchery is always a fantastic place to eat. Both the service and the food are excellent. The only suggestion I have to improve the experience would be to install some kind of environmental control; the heat was quite overwhelming even though it was not too busy. I had to step outside to cool down. If you could sort that, the experience would be perfection.

I was really looking forward to coming here but sadly just didn't live up to my expectations! We came for my 40th birthday I ordered steak as a main course it was probably one of the worst steaks I have ever had full of fat and very tough. Not wanting to complain or embarrise my friends I did not complain.

It was stunning to dine in and the food and wine was excellent. Staff so attentive and nice.

Very disappointing. Chicken for main course was dry. Vegetables which were extra were inedible.

Very attentive and helpful staff and great ambience. Food was well presented and above average.
