Location is super, the atmosphere very good, service attentive but slow. The food ifrom the ala carte menu is near 1 star michelin prices but average quality.

The Witchery has been a favourite restaurant of ours for more than a decade. As always, the ambience, food, drinks and service did not disappoint. Thanks to John and his team for their hospitality.

Outstanding location, close to Edinburgh Castle. Great ambience, very gothic. We dined in the Garden Room, which was very dark and old fashioned, although there is the Witchery Restaurant which has the same menu but even more gothic ( leather and wood panelling etc. ). Service is great, very attentive, and the food is nice but not great, quite expensive. We had fillet steaks at £41 each, which were nice, although my wife's was slightly undercooked for her taste and had to be cooked a bit more, but emerged with fresh trimmings. Recommended for the atmosphere and location, food is Michelin prices although not quite Michelin quality. No dress code but thankfully there weren't any of the sportswear brigade- most people made an effort. Definitely jeans and shirt as a minimum.

The restaurant is beautiful and romantic but the food is pretty average. You’re paying for the location and the ambience not a cremated chicken breast.
