Set in a refurbished 18th century building, The Windmill is a country-style gastro pub serving a wholesome menu of modern British dishes with a Mediterranean flair. The bar is filled with cosy corners and log fires, and serves a good selection of wines, ales and lagers.

With chefs given the opportunity to train at cookery schools in Spain and Italy, The Windmill menu features modern signature recipes made using the finest available ingredients. As well as creative daily-changing specials, favourites include king prawn, crab and chorizo linguine, or spit-roasted chicken with lemon & garlic confit. A kids’ menu and Sunday roasts also feature, and desserts include rich vanilla and chocolate gelato with home-baked cookies.

The result of a treasured partnership with Rothschild wine merchants, the cellar at The Windmill pub showcases many fine wines, while token real ales and premium spirits are found at the bar. Nostalgic British nibbles and eclectic sharing platters bursting with international flavours offer more laidback dining.

The Windmill in Surrey is just a 4-minute drive from Sunningdale Railway Station.

    Everything was fine but the "Great Sunday Roast" promotion is at best not clear but probably misleading!

    The staff was very attentive but not intrusive. Kat was especially helpful.
    My chips were tepid but perhaps because we asked for main course to be delayed.
    The real disappointment was the removal from menu of the poached egg/black pudding starter. A poor decision. We were told that it was one of the most popular options. It was a major element of my decision to invite a friend there.

    Very good, as always. My only negative comment would be is that we had to ask for the bill twice.

    We arrived and ordered our food at around at 7pm but then proceeded to wait for nearly an hour and a half for our meals. We were told the delay had been caused by a small fire in the kitchen and yet we were offered no compensation until we asked (a free drink). After a further delay and more excuses we then watched as every other table received their starters, mains and even puddings again no apology or offer of compensation. When we again complained we were given a complimentary pudding but quite frankly we had to complain several times before our food was served and an apology by way of compensation was forthcoming. It was embarrassing to have to constantly complain, not to mention being extremely hungry and the lack of customer service completely ruined our evening. We accept that things happen but to then serve every other guest and offer no update on what was happening with our meal was both rude and unprofessional. It is a great shame as each of us has dined at your restaurant previously and would have recommended it but after last night our opinion has changed greatly.

    It's a nice place. I haven't been there for a few years as I've been away but it didn't seem to be as good as it used to be. It was good but just not AS good. The decor looked pretty tired and the whole place was cold. I always viewed it as a cosy little place by the fire. But I had to keep my jacket on. There was a time when it would be full on a Saturday night. But there was lots of empty tables.
    So it still a nice place. Just signs it need some tlc.
