Restaurant description

Set amidst the stunning landscapes of the Lake District and winner of Cumbria Pub of the Year 2014, The Wild Boar Grill and Smokehouse showcases modern but hearty British food. Discover roaring open fires, sprawling rugs and low beamed ceilings in the cosy dining room.

Priding itself on its traditional décor bursting with character, The Wild Boar Inn also boasts an open kitchen for views of the chefs in action. Snack on pork crackling before sampling starters such as snails in herb, garlic and brandy cream, or game pie with piccalilli.

Guests can choose from mains including wild boar chop, and poached fillet of turbot with langoustines. Traditional pub classics such as the home roast and fish and chips can also be found on the Wild Boar Grill menu. Apple and homemade toffee vodka sorbet is a highlight among the desserts, and the wine list is substantial.

In close proximity to the famous Lake Windermere, The Wild Boar in Cumbria is a favourite with both locals and visitors. Windermere Train Station is a 10-minute drive away.

OMG so many of my friends posted pics of the afternoon tea. So we decided to pay a visit with our friends who were visiting from London. We prebooked the afternoon tea for 1:30 and turned up 20 minutes early and our table was free. Such beautiful surroundings and our table was in a lovely location In the pub and so relaxing. The alternative afternoon tea was HUGE!! It didn’t disappoint!! The pork pies and fish bites were amazing and the scones and jam were delicious too. Amazing experience and we have been telling everyone to visit. We will be back.

A fantastic dinning experience, thank you so much. Loved the smoked lamb and steak and enjoyed with a nice bottle of red, Chateau Corbin. Desert looked and tasted beautiful. A perfect evening in a beautiful restaurant. Loved the huge supporting rock by the open kitchen.

I came for afternoon tea with my boyfriend. He got the three ales which he said were all delicious and same for my pink fizz ?? The afternoon tea was amazing, only problem were our scones were under cooked but we were full anyway and it happens, so we didn’t bother mentioning anything. Service was good, all staff are lovely. We will be returning.

Food is excellent, easily the best afternoon tea in the Lakes. Service is outstanding, nothing is too much trouble. This is our 4th visit and we will return!

This was the second time we have visited and we were not disappointed. The staff were lovely - welcoming, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was outstanding - pigs in blankets nibbles followed by the smoked rib eye which was delicious. Drinks were reasonably priced with a good selection. Desserts - sticky toffee puding in particular were amazing and not for the faint hearted. The courses had a good amount of time left between them which unlike some of the places we visited was lovely and we didn't feel rushed. We will definately be back.
