Priding itself on its traditional décor bursting with character, The Wild Boar Inn also boasts an open kitchen for views of the chefs in action. Snack on pork crackling before sampling starters such as snails in herb, garlic and brandy cream, or game pie with piccalilli.

Guests can choose from mains including wild boar chop, and poached fillet of turbot with langoustines. Traditional pub classics such as the home roast and fish and chips can also be found on the Wild Boar Grill menu. Apple and homemade toffee vodka sorbet is a highlight among the desserts, and the wine list is substantial.

we had the alternative afternoon tea and omg it was amazing we loved everything about it but the standout dish on their for me was the beef stuffed yorkshire pudding. The whole thing was great value for money and by far the best afternoon tea i have had. The venue itself was clean and we felt very safe and looked after. It’s got a country pub feel but quirky at the same time. would definitely visit again if we come back to the lake district.

Food was lovely. Lots of it. Main waiters and waitresses were nice and polite. Sadly the headwaiter had attitude. He spoiled the whole experience.

Very disappointing experience at the Wild Boar recently. Establishment itself looks a little run down, more shabby than chic. Visited for the alternative afternoon tea which I see on everyone’s instagram but the food, although presented nicely, is mediocre at best. Ours seemed to be flavourless and lukewarm. The worst part about the experience was that we seemed to be seated in an area inundated with flies. There were so many around us. Buzzing around our face and food. Not a lot the staff could do I guess but if they were a little more attentive then they may have suggested to move us in to a different area. The customer service wasn’t there though. When I found an eyelash in the clotted cream I decided to notify a member of staff at reception where one waiter was also hanging about. They looked concerned in the face but they didn’t actually tell me how they were going to rectify it. Instead they just knocked off 20%. All in all a very unsatisfying day at The Wild Boar.

Sorry but food was very poor. Pigs in blankets were under cooked and the bacon was chewy. The chicken breast in butter milk. turned out to be dry chicken bits in breadcrumbs. I managed to eat mine but my friend left most of hers. Not really described well on the menu. Ordered a pint of orange squash and blackcurrant turned up. Ordered another one later and it came with soda water! Afraid not up to previous visits. Would not recommend to friends.

OMG so many of my friends posted pics of the afternoon tea. So we decided to pay a visit with our friends who were visiting from London. We prebooked the afternoon tea for 1:30 and turned up 20 minutes early and our table was free. Such beautiful surroundings and our table was in a lovely location In the pub and so relaxing. The alternative afternoon tea was HUGE!! It didn’t disappoint!! The pork pies and fish bites were amazing and the scones and jam were delicious too. Amazing experience and we have been telling everyone to visit. We will be back.

A fantastic dinning experience, thank you so much. Loved the smoked lamb and steak and enjoyed with a nice bottle of red, Chateau Corbin. Desert looked and tasted beautiful. A perfect evening in a beautiful restaurant. Loved the huge supporting rock by the open kitchen.
