Restaurant description

Named after Lady Katherine Ferrers, the highwaywoman active in the area during the 17th century, The Wicked Lady is a refurbished country-style pub serving modern British cuisine with a Mediterranean influence. With vaulted ceilings, leather armchairs & a sleek bar, this pub is a rustic retreat in the quaint village of Wheathampstead.

With chefs given the opportunity to train at cookery schools in Spain and Italy, The Wicked Lady menu features modern signature recipes made using the finest ingredients. As well as creative daily-changing specials, favourites include king prawn, crab and chorizo linguine, or spit-roasted chicken with lemon & garlic confit. A kids’ menu and Sunday roasts also feature, and desserts include rich vanilla and chocolate gelato with home-baked cookies.

The result of a treasured partnership with Rothschild wine merchants, the cellar showcases many fine wines, while token real ales and premium spirits are found at The Wicked Lady bar. Nostalgic British nibbles and sharing platters bursting with international flavours offer more laidback dining.

Close to St Albans, The Wicked Lady in Wheathampstead is an 11-minute drive from Harpenden Rail Station.

Great family Mother's Day meal. Considering how busy and tired the staff were after a long day the food and service was still up to scratch

I have used the Wickes Lady for many years. The new refurbishment is lovely and more cosy, being sectioned off. The service is always good and the food excellent, however my one criticism yesterday was that the roast potatoes were very dry inside.

I enjoyed the lunch. There was only one time when the waitress was unattentive when we wanted to order a bottle of wine - but overall acceptable. I found the food good although my guest thought the fillet steak was rather small.
