Named Best Family Friendly Pub Chester & Cheshire’s Food & Drink Awards 2014, The White Horse is a charming gastro pub found in the grounds of the racecourse. Crackling log fires are a staple in winter, and the airy open conservatory offers views across the racecourse and city walls.
The diverse White Horse menu spans from nibbles, sandwiches and light bites, to hearty pub classics and pizzas from the wood burning charcoal grill. Children can design and decorate their own pizzas at their table, and enjoy the pirate ship playground in warmer weather.
Guests can enjoy an outdoor bar and barbecue area at The White Horse in Chester, perfect for summer evenings and weekends. At the bar, choose from with traditional beers, familiar wines and quirky minerals.
Found on the fringes of the historic city, The White Horse restaurant is a 9-minute drive from Chester Train Station.

The food was excellent. The service was very poor! We were seated out of the main retaurant and we were ignored by the staff for the night, it really was an effort to get anyone's attention.

I had fish and chips, very poor effort. Chips over cooked and peas were weird sweet taste. The fish was wet inside the batter.
To make matters worse the server never bothered to ask how the meal was. Very disappointed having been there previously when it had been good.
Does not encourage me for a further visit.

Restaurant is a very nice place to eat,I had the beef roast which was very nice but not for my wife as she doesn't eat red meat and there was only one meat choice for a roast dinner ( disappointing ).

the décor of the restaurant is modern and smart. we went for Valentines day and had the set menu, in the nicest way the menu sounded fairly basic, but we were amazed at how good the food was. the menu made the food sound fairly basic, but when the food arrived it was so much much more than what the menu had stated.
the value for money was brilliant also. £35 per head for a 3 course meal and we each had the steak and beef wellington (which was cooked perfectly), as well unlimited drinks including red wine, white wine, rose, draught beer and prosecco.
the waitress we had was brilliant, and never let our drinks go below a quarter full before she was topping us up again, extremely friendly, professional and helpful too.
located right on chester racecourse too so prime location.
will definitely go again to try the main menu

Very slow service. We were not asked if we would like to see the sweet menu. I had to call the waitress over and ask to see the sweet menu. Considering the restaurant was not busy we had to wait a long time for our main courses. None of us had starters and 3 had the same main course. Three of us had sweets.

We booked to return to the White Horse with their fifty per cent off food offer as we had been very impressed with our first visit two weeks before with both the food and service. Unfortunately the second visit did not compare. We were seated in the corner with very little lighting and felt we were sat out of the way and had to ask for everything such as water for the table on two occasions and drinks. We ordered Becks which tasted awful and quickly brought this to the staff's attention. We orderd the sirloin steak which was very disappointing and very fatty. Not once did anyone come over to ask if our meal was alright. The service was lacking throughout our visit. We paid at the bar as nobody came over to us. Very inconsistent customer service in comparison to the first time.
