Restaurant description

Overlooking the village green and offering al fresco dining, The White Horse – Maidstone is a country-style pub serving a vast menu of modern British dishes. Warmed by log fires, this refurbished gastro pub also features exposed wooden beams on the ceilings & a convivial bar, making it a snug place to enjoy a glass of wine or a traditional Sunday roast.

With chefs given the opportunity to train at cookery schools in Spain and Italy, The White Horse – Maidstone menu features modern signature recipes made using the finest available ingredients. As well as creative daily-changing specials, favourites include king prawn, crab and chorizo linguine, or spit-roasted chicken with lemon & garlic confit. A kids’ menu and Sunday roasts also feature, and desserts include rich vanilla and chocolate gelato with home-baked cookies.

The result of a treasured partnership with Rothschild wine merchants, the cellar showcases many fine wines, while token real ales and premium spirits are found at The White Horse – Maidstone bar. Nostalgic British nibbles and eclectic sharing platters bursting with international flavours offer more laidback dining.

The White Horse – Maidstone in Surrey is a 3-minute walk from Bearstead Railway Station.

We ate here a fortnight ago and all was very nice indeed. This time things were not all wonderful. It was a cold night and it was very cold in the restaurant, we had to put our coats back on. My wife ordered soup. No soup spoon had to chase someone to bring us one. She ordered steak which was over cooked and had a great deal of sinew in it. She could not eat it all. Her vegetables were cold. I'm not one of life's whingers but thought you would like to know.

Inconsistent service, food potions have got smaller , presentation of food is awful and on plates that are to awkward to eat from. Waiting staff could smile a bit more, & not stocking soya milk meant I couldn’t have a hot drink after dinner! I find this very old hat. Front of house seated us quickly and were very welcoming. Drinks from the bar were slow.

The Sunday roast chicken was just out of this world, the flavours on the dinner reminded me of Christmas,.

Nice restaurant, good location on the edge of the green. However my group of 7 waited over zn hour for the meals to be served and the restaurant was not busy that day.Apparently due to lack of staff in kitchen and an inspection going on that day. I would have been good if someone had told us there would be a delay. I enjoyed my meal when it eventually came.

The layout and atmosphere were exceptional and the menu comprehensive with a range of vegan items which were very tasty for two of our guests. The only negative was the car parking which was not adequate during peak times
