Inside a beautiful and historic 15th-century Tudor hotel, Sadler's Brasserie at The White Hart is a sophisticated slice of traditional British dining. Head Chef Matthew Briddon brings experience from some of the country's top kitchens, while the plush furnishings and traditional décor create a comfortable, inviting setting.

Classic British recipes are given inventive tweaks throughout the Sadler's Brasserie menu, all using the finest ingredients. To start, there are bold flavours in options like the pickled beetroot with truffle-whipped goats’ cheese, candied hazelnuts and beetroot essence, as well as hay-smoked salmon pot with horseradish, chive crème fraîche and caviar. Hearty mains include confit belly of pork with crispy pork wontons, and fillet of beef rossini with Madeira truffle jus.

Afternoon tea at Sadler's Brasserie Wells is a real treat – there are sumptuous finger sandwiches, classic scones with jams and clotted cream, as well as other baked treats, and loose leaf teas. There is a select wine list also, with vintages from around the globe.

A truly historic setting filled with traditional comforts, Sadler's Brasserie at The White Hart is moments from Wells Cathedral, and 30 minutes' drive from Bruton Rail Station.

    Underutilised at lunchtime? Too quiet!

Lovely evening. Our second visit and we loved the food the ambience (fire in stove) and the waitress was efficient and welcoming. Favourite was all of it. Duck starter and venison main were perfect and so tasty. Soup and hake cooked to perfection.

Wonderful lunch. Good value and quality. The new waitress is a very nice young girl and she looked after us very well. We certainly recommend the delicious food and excellent service.

On a quiet January evening there was a lovely atmosphere in the restaurant with a warm welcome. I liked the tasteful decor, and carpeted floors help to keep noise down. Each dish was delicious; the venison was succulent and each part of the dish complemented the other. The iced nougat dessert was a real treat.

Excellent environment, food very good, service also good. Only thing that let them down was the very small amount of lime available to have with the soda.

There was a warm welcome on this December Sunday evening from the personnel and the log fire. The food was very good with starters of cod cheeks and soup, both excellent. The mains of pheasant and pork were good with the pheasant brest being slightly tough, but the stuffed leg was very good. We finished with the cheese board. This was served at a good temperature and the goat's cheese was particularly excellent.

    Excellent refined Sunday lunch.
    Will definitely be back.

The food was delicious, but it was disappointing to have to ask for the bread to accompany the soup- and the waitress had to check first that it did come with bread! Furthermore, bread rolls should not be rationed and bread should be offered throughout the meal, not just as an appetiser- I would prefer to have it with the starter rather than before the meal.
    Waitress not always attentive.
Portions are on the small size, but quality of ingredients is very good.
    Overall a good experience.
