In the idyllic hamlet of Ford, near Chippenham, The White Hart is a quintessential English country pub, delivering well-loved British classics made using fresh, seasonal ingredients. The refurbished 16-century pub boasts a spacious terrace for al fresco summer dining; inside, cosy décor includes some of the building’s original features, with clashing tartan upholstery, exposed brick walls & painted wall panels painted in fresh tones of sea-blue and mint green, as well as distressed-look tables & benches.
The White Hart specialises in juicy Black Angus steaks, cooked to perfection in the charcoal oven. Other favourites on the menu include tea-smoked duck with wild mushrooms, mixed leaves & pine nuts, slow-cooked pork with sage, apple, creamed potato & kale, and Gloucester sausages with mash, topped with rich bacon & onion gravy.
For something different, try a sharing platter with friends, such as the baked box Camembert with sourdough toast & sticky onion jam. The menu also features sandwiches & ciabattas, a selection of vegetarian & kids’ dishes, and a list of tempting desserts. Traditional roast is served on Sundays, and the pub also boasts a large selection of lagers, ales & cider, as well as a list of wine wines and refreshing cocktails mixed by the skilled bar team.
The White Hart in Chippenham is a 10-minute drive from Chippenham Rail Station.

We booked a table for 4 as we were staying nearby for my birthday. My sister and husband ordered the Chateaux Briand (£56 for 2), and were disappointed with the size of the meat, and the lack of vegetables available (at extra cost). The meat was nice though, just not the size they are used to in upmarket venues. I had a steak pie which was nice and the chips were Very good too. As a non cheese eater and not a massive meat eater, I was quite limited to my choices. Lovely interior and am sure it must be nice in the summer to eat outside. Think our waitress could have done with more training as she did not know what vegetables they could offer, and when my brother in law said the meat was rather cold, she merely said ‘oh sorry about that’ with no offer of rectifying it which was odd. Would say okay if you are in the area but not to go out of your way for.

Lots of parking spaces, Very attractive staff. The restaurant is large, but because of the shape and layout feels intimate. The food is good, but not special, in good sized portions. More Gourmand than Gourmet. I would recommend the White Hart to anyone looking for a good meal, away from the motorway service stations. Turn off at Chippenham and rejoin at the Bath exit or vice versa.

Although the food was good (have had better there before), the service was not at all up to the standard I would expect. It felt very rushed, some of my table were still eating when the waitress started to clear our table and then just as my 5 year old daughter took a bite, her plate was removed (the waitress assumed she had finished)- she had no chance to eat anymore. Good job we didn't want dessert really as I'm not sure we would of been allowed it. I understand it was Sunday and they were busy, but we are still paying customers. We were at our table for 12pm and were gone by 1pm..... Also I am all for dog friendly pubs (have a dog myself), however most pubs we have been in, keep the area where you can eat & still brings dogs separate to the others without dogs. For people who do not like or are scared of dogs, where would they go? To say I'm less than impressed is an understatement to be honest. I would not recommend this pub to anyone, even with past experiences being much more pleasurable. Giving 2 stars as the food brought my rating up from a 1 star I'm afraid to say. Such a shame to have give feedback like this as in the past it has always been so lovely, warm & welcoming.
