A rustic retreat amidst the natural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, The Wensleydale Heifer Leyburn serves seasonal British food that has earned it a place in the Good Food Guide. Serving a dedicated lobster menu, and winner of AA Seafood Pub of the Year, the restaurant specialises in using carefully sourced British produce to create simple but exquisitely presented dishes.
Prepared by a team of chefs who have worked in several different countries, the weekly changing menu is diverse, and is led by supreme seafood from the British Isles. From the grill, try the signature malt whisky and brown sugar marinated beef fillet, celeriac and truffle purée, and a choice of sauces including aged Roquefort and muscat cream. The seafood dishes are every bit as exciting, and include banana leaf-baked Scottish salmon, with crab and Thai peanut curry sauce. The Heifer’s Canadian lobster salad is enough to satisfy the hungriest of diners, featuring lobster, scallops, tiger prawns, crispy belly pork, smoked bacon, and a sweet maple syrup dressing. As well as a vegetarian menu, a range of dishes have been designed for gluten-free diners, including the Heifer’s famous fish and chips.
As well as a children’s menu, vegetarian and vegan menu, and a hearty Sunday lunch, The Wensleydale Heifer West Witton boasts a lengthy list of world wines and creative cocktails. The snug and bar offer the opportunity to enjoy a hand-picked whisky or local ale from the comfort of a cosy fireside chair, whilst the restaurant garden is open for al fresco dining in warmer weather.
Surrounded by stunning scenery, The Wensleydale Heifer in North Yorkshire sits between the idyllic towns of Leyburn and Hawes.

I brought my wife for our 10 year wedding anniversary. We had a 10/10 trip. The food was beautiful, the staff were professional, polite and friendly and very helpful.
The dining room was small but cosy with plenty of space between other diners. My wife discussed the artwork on the wall, I believe it was a local artist and It was very impressive.
We ordered Oysters for the first time although we wanted to try both versions, fresh and cooked. We asked the question and the chef happily agreed to split the dish and serve us half of each.
We also ordered the fish pakoras’ and prawn for starters. The attention to detail was amazing, the flavours were flawless with explosions of fresh coconut.
For main my wife had the chilli salt squid and I had the maple roast salad with Lobster, definitely money worth spending.
Finaly we ordered a bottle of the Deacan Estate Red to wash it it all down! Perfect.
We had an amazing experience, we would highly recommend and would definitely visit again.

Our favourite place to eat in the Yorkshire Dales. Visit regularly, never tire of the menu. The a la carte is exceptional, always different dishes on the specials menu. The Tempura Sweet chillie prawns, Fillet beef salad, The Hake, the famous fish and chips, the fillet Beef Diane, (it goes on and on - too many to mention!) are all delicious. The restaurant has a lovely relaxing, homely feel. The staff are very welcoming, polite and professional. The service is first class. Fantastic wine menu too at very reasonable prices.

We booked The Wensleydale Heifer for a special anniversary celebration. We arrived to a decorated table along with a card and floral gift. Most thoughtful and appreciated. The service was good and our meal excellent. We felt the quality was reflected in the cost of the overall meal but for such special anniversary it was worth it. We also enjoyed the facilities which are probably the most humourous we have ever visited. We hope to return.

My wife and I celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary at this restaurant which had been recommended by our host at a local cottage in the Dales. The quality of the food and service were excellent. The staff were relatively young and were engaging and efficient in a friendly manner. I would highly recommend the sea bass pakora and the sea bass main. The restaurant is not cheap but well worth paying a little extra for special occasion such as a birthday or anniversary.

Very nice food from the earlybird menu. 3 courses for less than £30 each. Food was plentiful, well presented and tasty. The main dining hall could do to lose the artex on the walls but was otherwise we'll presented, clean and tidy.
