Restaurant description

A rustic retreat amidst the natural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, The Wensleydale Heifer Leyburn serves seasonal British food that has earned it a place in the Good Food Guide. Serving a dedicated lobster menu, and winner of AA Seafood Pub of the Year, the restaurant specialises in using carefully sourced British produce to create simple but exquisitely presented dishes.

Prepared by a team of chefs who have worked in several different countries, the weekly changing menu is diverse, and is led by supreme seafood from the British Isles. From the grill, try the signature malt whisky and brown sugar marinated beef fillet, celeriac and truffle purée, and a choice of sauces including aged Roquefort and muscat cream. The seafood dishes are every bit as exciting, and include banana leaf-baked Scottish salmon, with crab and Thai peanut curry sauce. The Heifer’s Canadian lobster salad is enough to satisfy the hungriest of diners, featuring lobster, scallops, tiger prawns, crispy belly pork, smoked bacon, and a sweet maple syrup dressing. As well as a vegetarian menu, a range of dishes have been designed for gluten-free diners, including the Heifer’s famous fish and chips.

As well as a children’s menu, vegetarian and vegan menu, and a hearty Sunday lunch, The Wensleydale Heifer West Witton boasts a lengthy list of world wines and creative cocktails. The snug and bar offer the opportunity to enjoy a hand-picked whisky or local ale from the comfort of a cosy fireside chair, whilst the restaurant garden is open for al fresco dining in warmer weather.

Surrounded by stunning scenery, The Wensleydale Heifer in North Yorkshire sits between the idyllic towns of Leyburn and Hawes.

Lovely leisurely lunch even with two toddlers, the staff were very attentive & the food first class. The children's menu was very verified & the little touches for them where very thoughtful. We will definitely be back when next in the area, well worth a visit.

We had steak and the mini platter of all the puddings. The food was to die for! The only slighly negative comment i could think of was that the starters were all 99% fishy, with only 1 none fish starter. I know the restaurant is predominantly steak or fish, so we felt that the starters needed to accomodate a little more for that! The food really was fantastic, steak was melt in the mouth and will certainly be returning! Parking is a bit tight with a huge tree in the middle of the car park!

I love this place! Its sophisticated without being pretentious, its relaxed without being unprofessional. The food is interesting creative and awesome, the staff are nice attentive but not bothering and every time I go for a meal here it always a wonderful evening. This is the first time I have been since they introduced the new steak menu. I had the signature dish, "Rossini 6oz fillet steak, with foie gras and truffle" its was perfectly cooked charred grill flavour but cooked to perfection, everything on the plate was perfectly cooked and well combined, and loved the foie gras! I thoroughly enjoyed every mouth full. Well done guys you really can do with steak what you have done in the past and still are doing with seafood. Will be back again soon. Thank you Wensleydale Heifer team for another awesome evening.

The quality of food and service is consistently excellent hence we love eating at the Wensleydale Heifer and keep returning. We make a point of ordering different dishes on each visit rather than falling into the trap of ordering similar things because we already know they're wonderful. That way each visit is a culinary adventure ... and we discover new favourites!
