A rustic retreat amidst the natural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, The Wensleydale Heifer Leyburn serves seasonal British food that has earned it a place in the Good Food Guide. Serving a dedicated lobster menu, and winner of AA Seafood Pub of the Year, the restaurant specialises in using carefully sourced British produce to create simple but exquisitely presented dishes.

Prepared by a team of chefs who have worked in several different countries, the weekly changing menu is diverse, and is led by supreme seafood from the British Isles. From the grill, try the signature malt whisky and brown sugar marinated beef fillet, celeriac and truffle purée, and a choice of sauces including aged Roquefort and muscat cream. The seafood dishes are every bit as exciting, and include banana leaf-baked Scottish salmon, with crab and Thai peanut curry sauce. The Heifer’s Canadian lobster salad is enough to satisfy the hungriest of diners, featuring lobster, scallops, tiger prawns, crispy belly pork, smoked bacon, and a sweet maple syrup dressing. As well as a vegetarian menu, a range of dishes have been designed for gluten-free diners, including the Heifer’s famous fish and chips.

As well as a children’s menu, vegetarian and vegan menu, and a hearty Sunday lunch, The Wensleydale Heifer West Witton boasts a lengthy list of world wines and creative cocktails. The snug and bar offer the opportunity to enjoy a hand-picked whisky or local ale from the comfort of a cosy fireside chair, whilst the restaurant garden is open for al fresco dining in warmer weather.

Surrounded by stunning scenery, The Wensleydale Heifer in North Yorkshire sits between the idyllic towns of Leyburn and Hawes.

    VERY OVERPRICED AND VERY DISAPPOINTED.
THE TWO MALE STAFF WHERE HELPFUL AND POLITE, BUT THE YOUNG FEMALE STAFF DID NOT HAVE THE SERVICE QUALITIES , NOT ENOUGH ATTENTION TO DETAIL, APART FROM ONE CONSTANTLY LOOKING AT HERSELF IN THE MIRROR.
THE STARTER WAS NOT WHAT WE ASKED FOR, THE LOBSTER THERMIDORE WAS OVERPOWERED BY THE TOPPING AND THE COLD LOBSTER PLATTER HAD A ROLL MOP HERRING ON THE PLATE WHICH WITH THE VINEGAR TASTE OVERPOWERED THE REST OF THE PLATE OF FOOD. THE LOBSTER WAS OVERCOOKED THE PRAWNS TASTELESS THE OYSTERS WHERE GOOD. THE DESSERTS WHERE LOVELY PRESENTATION WAS BEAUTIFUL. BUT THE FOOD SEEMED TO BE FOCUSED ON QUANTITY RATHER THAN QUALITY.
THE PLACE ON CLOSER INSPECTION COULD DO WITH A GOOD DUST ON UPPER SURFACES.
IT COST £205.00 WHICH THEY INCLUDED A £18.50 SERVICE CHARGE SO YOUR PAYING THE STAFFS WAGES EFFECTIVELY.
AS WE HAD TRAVELED A LONG WAY FROM WORCESTERSHIRE AND WAS STOPPING IN RICHMOND THE COST OF THE ADDED TAXI FARE OF £50.00
MEANT THE OVERALL EXPERIENCE COST £255.00
WE WERE SO DISAPPOINTED IN THE OVERALL EXPERIENCE WHICH WAS MEANT AS A TREAT FOR OUR WEDDING ANNIVERSARY , WE WERE TOO TIRED TO COMPLAIN. THE FOLLOWING TWO DAYS I WAS VERY ILL WITH SICKNESS AND DIARRHEA, MAY BE I SHOULD OF HAD THE HOTTER VERSION LIKE MY HUSBAND. WE WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AND WOULD NOT RETURN

The food was mostly wonderful. Couldn't see a desert I especially fancied so had the sharing one and we picked at it and left quite a lot which is a bit of a first for us as usually if we like something we polish it off! Had an issue with one of the waitresses which was a shame but the other waiting staff were all great, especially the waitress who served most of our food.

I had the sea bass which was very nice. However I did think that the new potatoes had a microwave flavour to them whilst they were nice, this was a bit disappointing.

I found the staff to be polite and welcoming and when we had ordered our meal we where shown to our table and again the staff where attentive and smiling , the starters were delicious and quite filling, for my main I had ordered fish and chips which was quite the best that I’ve had anywhere. After lunch we took coffee in the lounge area and enjoyed the surroundings, thank you for a most enjoyable experience.

We were warmly welcomed and received a small gift and balloon for our special occasion. We enjoyed an appropriately paced dinner and excellent standard of food and service. The desserts, in particular, were stunning. Chilled wine and water supplied at each end of the table. The seafood platter and tasting desserts were excellent.

Quality and speedy service. The choice on menu was excellent and the chosen meal was to a good standard. Of note the prawns in batter starters were fantastic.

The only downside was the £25 (£8.50 retail) bottle of red wine wasn’t great.
