A traditional country pub serving modern British cuisine, The Walpole Arms dates back to the 18th century and sits in picturesque Norfolk countryside.
The chefs have created a mouth-watering menu prepared using seasonal local produce. Favourites include chargrilled 21-day aged sirloin steak with mushrooms, oven-dried tomatoes, salad & triple-cooked chips, roast red pepper & mozzarella risotto ball with slow cooked tomato sauce, artichoke & shaved pecorino salad, and pan-fried guinea fowl breast & confit leg with a potato terrine, caramelised chicory & chorizo.
Complementing the Walpole Arms menu are an extensive wine list & a tempting dessert menu. The pub serves a traditional roast every Sunday, and quiz nights are held on Wednesdays.
The traditional bar area features Norfolk red brick, oak beams and a wood burner to keep you warm in those cold winter months. With a cosy seating area, the Garden Room opens out onto the vine-covered terrace, creating the perfect setting for al fresco dining.
The Walpole Arms in Norfolk is a 10-minute drive from Aylsham Rail Station.

Beautiful setting but very cold. Overall food was underflavoured and didn't seem entirely fresh. Staff all very nice and helpful but spent a lot of time on mobile phones.

Extremely disappointed booked a table here for a Sunday lunch via their website for 2 people at 3pm. When we arrived we waited at the bar and were ignored by the staff member who was making coffees. When we were finally acknowledged we ordered drinks and then said we had a table booked she asked for the name and then asked “are you eating today?” Strange as I had said we had booked a table. We got taken over to our table where the waitress sat us gave us menus, we were then asked if we could quickly decide what we’d like as the kitchen was closing shortly. I have never experienced this, we had booked a table, not walked in off the off chance they could fit us in. After that we decided not to stay and spend our money at a pub that didn’t want our custom. Tip for this pub -if you don’t want customers at 3 then don’t offer a table booking for 3pm. Will not be back- extremely poor service and rude.

We have visited the Walpole Arms several times before and had heard about the new Tapas dishes. Having lived in Portugal and visited Spain quite often we had always delighted in the Tapas menus. The new menu food was excellent and the service as usual very good. We did however feel that the prices for the Tapas was extremely high. £4.95 for 5 Manchego crisps (which were fabulous). In our experience Tapas is always very good value and sadly this was not. Our table was not particularly good, being near the drafty door which is why I have marked the ambience down.

The new tapas menu is fabulous. The flavours were stunning and the portions quite generous. From the basics of the bread and aioili to the meatballs, patatas bravas or croquetas, every dish was delicious. I can't choose a favourite! The house Rioja was also a delight. We would have had more drinks if anyone had come back to ask. Service was OK, but could have been a bit warmer. It's early days for the new owners and menu so I'm sure it will get even better.

I don't think the food was quite as good as it used to be. We had lunch, and apparently they now do a sort of tapas, which we didn't know about. We had the special (not tapas!), and it was good but rather rich and the roast potatoes were disappointing. It needed green veg. And also I think there seem to be a lot of new and inexperienced staff. I rather missed the very wonderful ones from before, but perhaps they're being saved for evenings. They will learn, but way to go yet. Not quite as good overall as it used to be. Hope this was a glitch.
