A traditional country pub serving modern British cuisine, The Walpole Arms dates back to the 18th century and sits in picturesque Norfolk countryside. The pub is the only one in Norfolk to have won the coveted Michelin Bib Gourmand Prize for 10 years in a row.

The chefs have created a mouth-watering menu prepared using seasonal local produce. Favourites include chargrilled 21-day aged sirloin steak with mushrooms, oven-dried tomatoes, salad & triple-cooked chips, roast red pepper & mozzarella risotto ball with slow cooked tomato sauce, artichoke & shaved pecorino salad, and pan-fried guinea fowl breast & confit leg with a potato terrine, caramelised chicory & chorizo.

Complementing the Walpole Arms menu are an extensive wine list & a tempting dessert menu. The pub serves a traditional roast every Sunday, and quiz nights are held on Wednesdays.

The traditional bar area features Norfolk red brick, oak beams and a wood burner to keep you warm in those cold winter months. With a cosy seating area, the Garden Room opens out onto the vine-covered terrace, creating the perfect setting for al fresco dining.

The Walpole Arms in Norfolk is a 10-minute drive from Aylsham Rail Station.

I should point out that I did email the Hunworth Bell on my return but I received no reply, thus the use this forum.

We have had lunch twice at the Hunworth Bell in the last ten days. The food, wine and service are all excellent.

However, on our second visit I was told that I could not have my fillet blue because it was pre-cooked 'sous vide'. The reason given was something to do with bacteria! Google tells me that 'sous vide' means that the meat is sits in warm water in a poly bag for several hours! Obviously, this precludes one having a blue steak because the meat is already cooked. A blue steak is cooked (albeit quickly) under a very hot grill for long enough to kill anything, I would have thought.

So this is far more likely to be about saving time and effort in the kitchen than for health reasons. Perhaps not many of the Hunnybell's customers like their steaks cooked this way.

My bangers and mash were fine but I would have preferred the fillet.

I would still recommend the Hunnybell to my friends but I would also warn them that they won't get a blue or, arguably even a rare steak.

Made to feel very welcome, in a warm and inviting room. The food was truly wonderful, and the house wine (red) was excellent! Attentive service - smoked salmon, followed by duck, followed by cheese board - unfortunately for health reasons, I had to pass on soft or blue cheese, but the cheeses provided were lovely. A really lovely evening.

Wow factor from start to finish. We were on our annual trip to Norfolk for a week. Found the Walpole arms whilst researching due to no wifi at our cottage..which we love!
The setting is idyllic, the gardens beautifully kept and laid out, we enjoyed a pre-Sunday lunch drink outside prior to eating. Chickens wandering around the garden nonchalantly. The food is superior and not overpriced for the quality that is served. The pork belly bon bons were delicious, not too much for a starter. Sirloin for mains, which was cooked to perfection, medium rare and perfect accompaniments of seasonal vegetables cooked beautifully. Dessert was sublime staff were quietly efficient in the background, but attentive and very helpful. Our visit was memorable, we will be returning!
