Favourite pudding was hot plums served in small pan, topped with clotted cream. Also enjoyed fillet of sea bass with lobster and samphire sauce. Would recommend this.

Trading since 1784, The Turnpike proudly uses Cotswold Stone for its eye-catching slate roof, and serves traditional British pub cuisine in the Oxfordshire countryside. It boasts comfortable seating in the al fresco beer garden or by the classic hearth, and other rustic features include oak beams, old tankards and cosy candles.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Turnpike Yarnton menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Turnpike ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

While in the pretty countryside, The Turnpike, in Kidlington, is just 12 minutes' drive from Oxford.

Lovely meal however no option to change from chips&onion rings to healthier option. Although the waitress did we were charged extra £2.50. We pre booked and 4 of us ordered rump steak however there was only 1 at 7:30 which was disappointing so early on in the evening.

We were grateful being given a table near a radiator as it was a cold day. The food was served promptly and was very tasty. Thank you

Sunday lunch is excellent, roast potatoes crispy but not hard lovely roasted carrot and parsnips with greens Yorkshire pudding and as much gravy as you want. The food is served fresh on hot plates, not too much but you leave full. The couple running it now have improved the quality of the food and its presentation. I love the Turnpike it has a wonderful atmosphere when it's quiet or bursting at the seams.

Overall very good and no real complaints. No-one to great us ( we had booked ) and waited patiently at the Bar to speak to the Barman, who was on his own serving several people. He was very polite, helpful and left the bar immediately to sort out a table for us. I suppose we had waited ten minutes. Again no real complaint, just a comment about one poor staff member having to do several jobs. The waiter who served us was excellent and polite. The food was good, hot and enjoyable and worth what we paid for it. We had the set menu, my wife mushrooms, myself Calamari, with Ham and eggs to follow. My wife had Scampi, and we both enjoyed the meal. Waiter was very attentive. Nice atmosphere, and our 2nd recent visit, and has maintained its new approach, with a good selection, food and drinks.
