Excellent service and food. First return here since the 1970s. We had a Pimms Voucher and my daughter pronounced it up to scratch. Wonderful ambience.

Set on the bank of the River Thames, against the picturesque backdrop of Wolvercote, The Trout is an historic building which traces its roots to the 17th century. Now offering al fresco dining and serving modern British cuisine, this cosy, country pub and the riverbank it sits on have provided inspiration for literary gems such as Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.

With chefs given the opportunity to train at cookery schools in Spain and Italy, The Trout restaurant menu features modern signature recipes made using the finest seasonal ingredients. As well as creative daily-changing specials, favourites include Mediterranean mezze, seared chicken breast with sweet potato rosti & buttered British beans, and spit-roasted chicken with lemon & garlic confit. A kids’ menu and Sunday roasts also feature, and desserts include rich vanilla and chocolate gelato with home-baked cookies.

The result of a treasured partnership with Rothschild wine merchants, the cellar showcases many fine wines, while token real ales and premium spirits are found at The Trout bar. Nostalgic British nibbles and eclectic sharing platters bursting with international flavours offer more laidback dining.

The Trout in Oxford is a 10-minute drive from Oxford Railway Station.

The trout inn is a very pretty pub . But where we sat was not very good as there was food and straws and paper on the floor which was a bit of a down fall .

Lovely setting and I had the chicken burger which was very pleasant. A bit slow to get a table outside as it was a beautiful evening

Go to The Trout whenever we are in the UK - always a pleasant experience, very polite staff, good food and a great atmosphere. We were firstly pushed into a dark corner table, when we protested we were shifted to another table but then were moved around again when someone decided that the tables in the room need reconfiguring. We had an over chatty waiter, a very sullen waiter came from the kitchen and served our mains and knocked over my glass. He did come and mop it up and then our very chatty waiter came over and asked if everything was alright and I said ok except I hadn't been offered a replacement drink - walked away as if he hadn't heard me somI thought that was the end of that but when the bill came at the end my main had been knocked off of the bill - so he had heard me - a bit of a "Fawlty Towers" experience really.

It was the hottest day of the year so far and very busy but the staff were great. They didn't push us to hurry and the meal superb.
