Excellent service, Sunday dinner the best I have tasted for quite some time as well as the starter and dessert. Highly recommend the Travellers, never had a bad meal here.

Dating back to 1864, The Travellers Rest – Caerphilly boasts a uniquely beautiful situation, on Caerphilly Mountain, in the Welsh Valleys. Serving well-loved British pub cuisine, the building has a vintage thatched roof, with an ornate mirror over the grand, stone hearth. You can enjoy the food and incredible views from the al fresco dining area in summer, or from the plush, comfy chairs inside.
Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Travellers Rest menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Travellers Rest ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.
Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.
Offering stunning views from Caerphilly Moutain, The Travellers Rest Thornhill, Cardiff is only 4 minutes’ drive from Caerphilly.

Very helpful, courteous staff. 10 out of 11 meals were very good but 1 fish n chips was served in a pool of oil/fat. A replacement was offered but refused and the meal was not billed to us. However, a bottle of prosecco which we hadn’t had was billed to us but removed from the bill when I pointed out the error.

There was an irritatingly long delay of 45 minutes between ordering and arrival of the food (we skipped the starters). However, when it arrived, the quality and quantity was excellent. Desserts arrived quickly and were also delicious. Choice of real ale was limited, and wine expensive.

We were disappointed on arrival to find that all the dog friendly area was full. I had particularly stated when I booked the table that we would be bringing our dog. As a result we were told that it is the dining area alone that can be booked where no dogs are permitted. So we placed our dog in the car and took a table in the dining room. It is not clear on your bookable service that no dogs are catered for. However we have seen reserved signs on tables beside the fireplace at previous visits. Disappointed.

Music too loud had to ask for it to be lowered or move
Asked for prosecco..returned 3 FLAT drinks
Bottle of Italian wine ordered was unavailable
We were given our bill before we asked for it as we we told “it’s getting busy”
We did not feel we were valued customers

Went Sunday at 6.30 - disappointed that only Turkey left from the roast meal options which dominated the Sunday menu. If roasts are lunch option there should be a full normal menu for the evening diners. No one advised us of restricted availability when we were seated and given the menus so three of the five of us had to change our choices.
Service generally was a little slow.
The food that we had was very tasty, hot and enjoyable.

Regular diners here, but unlike usual, the service was extremely slow. The empty plates and glasses were left at the table for an extended length of time and we were forced to get our drinks at the bar as the service was so slow. The food, however was amazing as usual but took too long to come - 45 minutes for a bread starter and an extra half an hour for the mains, overall disappointed.

Booked on- line easily. Emailed to add another person with a quick confirmation. Love the open fire. Staff were friendly although they were very busy. Food was very nice

We were a party of four and dined with you last Saturday evening. We all chose to have three courses, and I must say we were not disapointed. From the first course through to the desert the food was excelant. My main course was the rib eye steak and was superb. On arrival we were shown to our table in a cosy corner with an open fire which provided a nice ambience. Our waitress who I think was called Tess provided splendid service both with our food and drinks which saved us trips to the bar. All in all it was an excellent night which we all thoroughly enjoyed and will definitely return.

Have been wining and dining here for 50 years or more and obviously seen off numerous landlords and managers. I was disappointed at the last refurbishment which totally did away with very old photographs of Caerphilly and district and completely obliterated all references to Cas5le Morgraug which is only a few hundred metres away, indeed virtually none of the staff no of its existence!!!!!!!
The quality of food has improved, mushroom starter for example is one of the best in CARDIFF, selection of drinks is adequate but I do feel more staff should be in evidence on Saturdays and Sundays, week days the staffing seems adequate.
