Converted from 3 1700s miners' cottages, The Swan in Rowberrow is a wonderfully historic countryside pub. Overlooking Beacon Batch, it makes for a perfect pitstop for walkers with its open fires and dog-friendly facilities.

The Swan menu is full of gourmet British pub dishes made with regional ingredients. There is slow cooked belly of Somerset pork with Toulouse cassoulet and buttered kale, as well as diver-caught scallops with beetroot risotto, rocket salad and parmesan crisps. There are sandwiches served during the day, and a popular traditional ploughman's with crusty granary bread.

Ales at The Swan Rowberrow include brews from the local Butcombe Brewery, and on Sundays there is a choice of roasts served with all the trimmings.

Still sporting its original stone wall and exposed beam finishes, The Swan Somerset is an 18-minute drive from Worle Rail Station.

The reason for our visit was a Post-Christmas meet up with relations. When we arrived we were advised by staff that they had no booking for us; after a 45 minute drive you can imagine how that went down. The Manager did kindly find a table for us - had we wanted to eat earlier than our 1230 slot that would not have been possible. It was fortunate too that we arrived 15 minutes early.

The food was acceptable but took a long time to arrive. We ordered coffees which were totally forgotten about until we reminded the staff 20 minutes later; even then our specific orders were nit fulfilled.

It seemed to us that the pub was totally understaffed and the management is not in control.

We use to enjoy coming to the Swan but since the refurbishment very Disappointed, not a great deal of choice with food if you prefer a traditional pub menu expensive and service was poor, lost its country pub appeal will not be returning

Tables well presented. A buzz when you walk in and good attentive staff. Food was very good and well presented. Need to book in advance as very busy. My only criticism was there were lots of dogs inside which obviously would appeal to dog lovers. However my personal view, even though I like dogs, The Swan is now a full blown eating place and therefore I don't think it is a place for dogs. Apart from a hygienic point of view I nearly fell over a dog on my way to the loo. The owners had two dogs under a small table for two! I don't understand the need for diners to take their dogs with them for an evening meal. Lunchtimes maybe if they have been out walking.

Awful, will not go there again, staff pleasant but no idea about service. When you get asked, would you like your starters and main courses together?, I leaves you dumbfounded. Service very slow and then 2 meals arrived and other 2 did not. When fish dish finally arrived girl announced that there were no cockles as they were dead. We asked twice for mustard before it arrived. Prices did not reflect the food or service even though a price reduction was made for the dead cockles. Bill was put on our table before asking for it or being asked if we would like coffee. Nice paint and wallpaper though. Think we write to Butcombe.

Had a great evening here for my birthday. We all had nice food....and my mother is hard to please :). Free prosecco as it was my birthday and I have a butcombe loyalty card. Love the refurbishment too, looks fab.
