In the picturesque village of Romsley, Halesowen, The Swallows Nest boasts well-loved British pub cuisine in a remote and tranquil destination, with fantastic country views. The rumoured ghost of an old landlady jealously guards the beautiful property and its ales. Your food can be enjoyed by the cosy log-fire, or in the garden, gifted with stunning views of Clent Hills and Waseley Hills.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Swallows Nest menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Swallows Nest ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

Deep in the West Midlands country, The Swallows Nest is 11 minutes’ driving to Hagley Train Station.

From booking the table (online) to paying the bill, all round great experience! Definitely recommend. Service was friendly and swift, and we were looked after fantastically all the way through the evening. Food did not take too long to prepare and time between courses suited us perfectly. Nothing was too much trouble, even after changing our minds serval times with our drinks. Will definitely return.

Very attentive waitress, food was amazing. We had family from South Africa who had never seen Yorkshire pudding and were very impressed with it.

The food was very nice. The only complaint is that two of us ordered cappachino which was fine, however, ithe other two friends ordered Americano. These were brought on a crock tray with milk and sugar on it, plus the two cups. However, when the cups were taken off the tray there were no saucers.

The bar was crowded and the restaurant areas appeared understaffed, so we had to queue at the bar to get our table and thus joined the crowd of those buying drinks (which nearly went out of the door). Once we were seated it was nearly half an hour before we were able to order our food. When we alerted the waitress she told us she needed to talk another order and deliver some drinks before taking our order, although she then changed her mind and took our order (albeit her tone was quite brusque when she did).
Everybody was happy with the quality of their food, except that when I asked if I could have a jacket potato (healthy option) with my steak, I was told that there weren't any left; however my dad was served a boiled potato (still with jacket on), so I can't understand why I couldn't have the same thing when the only difference is the way it was cooked.
The price of the food was good value in my opinion. The carrot cake cheesecake was particularly good and not anything I'd had before, so that was a pleasant surprise.
Once the food orders were taken service improved until asking for the bill, which took a long time (although that seems to be a common theme in restaurants where we eat out).
In summary, the evening was reasonable but not as good as we were expecting (especially as my sister, who was also in our party, said she dines there quite often and usually finds the experience more positive). There were clearly short-staffing issues which seemed to cause most of the disappointing factors.
