From Andrew Pern, the man behind the Michelin-starred pub The Star Inn at Harome, The Star Inn at The Harbour brings AA Rosette-awarded food to his hometown of Whitby.

The Star Inn at The Harbour's menus feature Catch-of-the-Day fish and meat specials and also world famous North Yorkshire Moors produce, such as furred and feathered game, as well as a seasonal All Day Menu.

Desserts include some childhood Ice Cream Parlour classics brought up to date. Surf 'n' Turf-style dishes are a restaurant speciality mirroring its 'one-foot-in-the-sea-one-foot-on-the-Moors' location.

Situated on the harbourside close to a number of carparks, The Star Inn at The Harbour sits straight opposite the train station

First class meal in a relaxed and striking setting. Attentive though discrete service throughout enhanced the experience. A well judged menu

When we arrived we were left standing at the door for sometime. The head of service walked past us several times without acknowledging us.

After a while we were informed that our table wasn't ready and directed to the bar, for drinks. When the table was ready, we were left to carry our drinks through to the opposite end of the restaurant.
The waitress appeared to be stressed and informed us that she was extremely busy as she was covering a large section of the restaurant. A wine list was not offered to us at any stage.

The food itself was a bit hit and miss. My Seabass was excellent, my wife's Hake cooked perfectly but she thought the side dishes tasked ok but had a consistency which reminded her of baby food.

The bill arrived, we paid, then had a long wait for a member of staff to retrieve our coats. They initially couldn't find them but tracked them down. My wife's jacket had been stuffed into the arm of mine so was creased and looked a bit downtrodden when it was returned.

The food was ok - some dishes were particularly good. The service was pretty disjointed and unprofessional though.

The bill was exactly the same as the previous night, in a comparable restaurant - where we had 2 extra starters and 2 bottles of wine and a coffee, instead of the 4 pre drinks in the Star. Not great value considering the poor service.

When we discussed the evening with our host for the weekends stay, he admitted that he doesn't recommend your restaurant to guests looking for somewhere to eat. I can understand why this is the case.

The mushroom and sour dough starter was just amazing.

From the moment we stepped through the door we were treated with respect and the team were most professional in every aspect. The atmosphere was lovely and relaxing by the harbour with soft lighting. The Waiter took our coats. Everything was explained. we ordered I had a few changes to my order and nothing was too much trouble which was a delight to hear. our waitress Joanne was fabulous always checking we had all we needed. My Husband throughly enjoyed the Lamb dish and said it was the best he has ever had. Will definitely be coming back.

Had the steak night menu - excellent steaks well cooked. Panna cotta was the best we have ever had. Staff friendly and attentive.

The best fish and chips I have ever ever had, after a 50 year career of hunting for the best, worldwide! The gluten free batter is out of this world and the chips stayed crisp to the very last one!

The service was good, and the food arrived quite quickly. My husband thought his fish pie was a bit dry and not as good as it was on our last visit. My friend and I ate from the vegetarian menu and both thought our main courses were somewhat disappointing. My Provençal vegetable pie resembled a thick tomato sauce with a rather chewy cheese crust. The pudding menu was limited. On the whole, I felt that our experience wasn’t as good as it had been the year before.
