I cannot name a particular favourite dish as all the food served is perfect. It is a very warm and welcoming place to dine with a lovely atmosphere and the staff are extremely attentive but not overpowering. I would consider The Star Inn as probably the best pub to eat in in a radius of 30 miles

Service was friendly but some of the food was disappointing (pork belly and Guinness pie) and the Rioja was clearly gone

As a Coeliac, a gluten free diet is of the utmost importance to me. I was delighted to see a separate menu with a good selection of dishes that I could enjoy. As a rule of thumb, I always check, because I have to, that chips are cooked in a dedicated fryer even when they are listed on a gluten free menu. I was very disappointed when, after asking 3 different members of staff, I discovered that the chips were in fact cooked with everything else. I advised the staff that their menu was incorrect and should be changed, either removing the four different types of chips they provide, or adding a section that explains they are not suitable for Coeliacs because of contamination. I ordered a burger with gluten free bun and the staff provided a salad in lieu of chips. Their were four in our party, and when the food arrived I saw a pickled gherkin had been speared to my burger. I asked a member of staff to check if the gherkin was gluten free as I suspected it was pickled in malt vinegar. My meal was removed and I had to wait for another burger, gherkin free. The other three in our party enjoyed their meals. So, overall, my burger and salad was good, and I had a free pudding, I would reserve judgement on eating gluten free at this restuarant as many members of staff had little knowledge of Coeliac disease, and although I asked to see the manager, this did not happen. Ask questions!!
