Excellent meal and service
31 July 2018
Once a noteworthy roadhouse built in the 19th century, The St George & Dragon, Exeter boasts well-loved British pub food in an idyllic location, both in the countryside and near the sea. Prizing its sense of homeliness, there is an Innkeeper’s Lodge, a warming hearth for winter and a pretty garden for al fresco dining.
Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The St George & Dragon menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The St George & Dragon ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.
Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.
The St George & Dragon is just 15 minutes’ walk from Topsham Train Station, or an 11-minute drive into Exeter.

There were 13 of us for lunch all female, to start with we were much impressed by how clean the inside of the property was, everything looked spotless. We all ordered different dishes from the menu and all enjoyed what we had, well cooked and well presented

Only problem with the food was they had run out of fish cakes.

Although our orders were taken promptly the meals were served out of sequence resulting in one of our party eating before the rest. This was followed by a a burger resembling a piece of charred shoe leather which was eventually replaced after the rest of us had finished. The whole experience succeeded in ruining my mother’s birthday lunch.

good service, although the food wasn't hot.

Six of us, including 2 children had Sunday evening roast. Overall it was very good, except the beef was rather sinewy and I had 2 very tiny slices of pork with no crackling or apple sauce. We were offered cauliflower chees e and were brought a tiny dish. On the whole the food was good and the service excellent.

Great atmosphere at this pub, we like all the different areas, with a mix of tables and chairs not all being the same.
Good food, at good prices, the lamb shank delicious.
