Originally a collection of barns, the building housing The Spade Oak is right next door to the house where Enid Blyton lived. Set in the sleepy riverside village of Bourne End, the pub & restaurant serves a menu of tasty modern British cuisine and boasts a leafy garden for al fresco dining & rustic interiors with a log fire.

Sourcing ingredients from trusted local suppliers, The Spade Oak menu features wholesome recipes based around the garden, land and sea. Sample hand-pressed burgers, beef & ale pie with cardamom carrots, or sea bass with potato gnocchi, while old-school puddings include warming crumbles, custard-lathered sponges and decadent brownies. Not forgetting younger diners, a kids’ menu includes miniature versions of British classics.

A partnership with the celebrated Rothschild wine merchants means The Spade Oak cellar is stocked full with an eclectic list of world wines, while indulgent wine flights allow guests to sample a variety of bins. Seasonal beers and barrel-kept ales also feature, as well as thirst-quenching cocktails and rich coffees.

The Spade Oak Marlow is a 9-minute drive from Cookham Rail Station.

Daughters birthday with family. Great choice of food at a reasonable price. The staff were very helpful, cheerful and nothing was a probleml. Great time had by all. Been back just a couple of times since with just two of us. Definitely be back when next occasion crops up.

Have not been here for a while and its clearly lost some of its quality. There has been some sort of leak through the ceiling with dark water staining on the ceiling. Not attractive, no clean up has been done. The food was average and portions small. My Mother had the sticky duck salad. The duck was lovely but the salad itself was a handful of peashoots - thats it! I had the sour cherry and nut florentine which was a wet sticky consistency, much like a treacle pie, nothing like any florentine I've had. My Mum had the lemon tart and gave me a spoonful. Not nice at all. Either too much gelatin or curdled as very thick sticky consistency. This venue used to be alot better and now seems to lack some TLC.
