What better way to enjoy a Sunday than in a cosy country pub with a great selection of British roasts starting from £11.50 – served all day and evening on Sundays using the freshest seasonal ingredients.
Originally a collection of barns, the building housing The Spade Oak is right next door to the house where Enid Blyton lived. Set in the sleepy riverside village of Bourne End, the pub & restaurant serves a menu of tasty modern British cuisine and boasts a leafy garden for al fresco dining & rustic interiors with a log fire.
Sourcing ingredients from trusted local suppliers, The Spade Oak menu features wholesome recipes based around the garden, land and sea. Sample hand-pressed burgers, beef & ale pie with cardamom carrots, or sea bass with potato gnocchi, while old-school puddings include warming crumbles, custard-lathered sponges and decadent brownies. Not forgetting younger diners, a kids’ menu includes miniature versions of British classics.
A partnership with the celebrated Rothschild wine merchants means The Spade Oak cellar is stocked full with an eclectic list of world wines, while indulgent wine flights allow guests to sample a variety of bins. Seasonal beers and barrel-kept ales also feature, as well as thirst-quenching cocktails and rich coffees.
The Spade Oak Marlow is a 9-minute drive from Cookham Rail Station.

We had a very good experience at the Spade Oak. The service was very prompt, from main course to coffee. The meal was very good, not too large and very tasty. The vegetables were very well cooked although not very hot. All in all a lovely relaxed meal. Thank you

We were a large table but I felt it took far too long for our mains to come after starters. I’d booked the standard menu because of 3 fussy eaters but when we arrived it was the set menu, which meant a cheeseburger and fries was £17! Quite rude when asking for sauces, hence didn’t leave a tip. Food was near cold by the time sauces arrived. All in all, not great to be honest! Although food was pretty good, let down by service!

food was acceptable - too few staff it seemed as we waited an age for our main meal. Staff need to engage with customers more to create an enjoyable dining experience. Good range of beers and wine.
