Originally built as a brewery in 1829, The Sovereign near Huddersfield is situated in the hills and valleys on the edge of the beautiful Peak District. Offering brilliant and well-loved British pub cuisine, the views and food can be savoured from the pretty al fresco garden and by the cosy hearth. Favouring a welcoming, warm colour scheme, the eye-catching mirrors and vintage wood furnishings aid the rustic feel.
Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Sovereign menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Sovereign Rest ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.
Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.
Nestled in the country, The Sovereign is just 4 minutes’ drive from Shepley Train Station, or 14 minutes to Huddersfield.

It took a while to get served and I eventually had to get a waitress, but once she was looking after us it was great. All our meals were ok but my dads steak was dry and tough and I also saw another customer struggling with it. I don't think the chef knew how to cook it??

When it came to paying .... couple of ladies came in , stood at the bar for a good 10 mins waiting , clearly they had made a reservation. I waited a further 5 mins before I was noticed. ( there was
No bar staff).

I had a fillet steak.A fillet steak should be tender The one I had was tough, hard to chew full of gristle. We dine at this restaurant nearly every week and I have never had reason to complain, but this time I was really upset. The service was good, perhaps it was Mothering Sunday and very busy., I do not know.it spoilt the whole evening for me.
