Nestled within 7 sprawling acres of greenery, The Simonds Room by in Hampshire is housed in the beautiful Audleys Wood Hotel. Built in the 1880’s as a private home, the property has been beautifully-preserved and still maintains its original features, such as intricately-carved paneled walls, open fireplaces and pillared archways.
Holder of 2 prestigious AA Rosettes, The Simonds Room utilises the best of British produce on its menu. The Taste of Hampshire menu is a celebration of all things local and includes the stories of individual suppliers to let diners know exactly where their dinner has come from. The king scallops, served with baby vegetables, quinoa and parmesan, are sourced from Coopers in Andover, fish suppliers since 1986.
The dining space at The Simonds Room affords the same period features enjoyed throughout the hotel. Carved mahogany walls are offset by high white sculpted ceilings; the open fireplace providing a cosy ambience is cooler weather. Starched white tablecloths and views over the landscaped gardens make for an elegant atmosphere.
Offering an elegant, fine dining experience, The Simonds Room in Basingstoke sits 7 minutes’ drive from Basingstoke train station.

This is the second time I've booked a table for afternoon tea, this time it was a surprise for my mum on her 94th birthday. My sister and brother joined us and we shared three teas between us as mum eats very little. We all enjoyed it very much, the staff were helpful and attentive, the surroundings beautiful and afternoon tea delicious.

Helpful staff. Good service and delicious afternoon tea, although missing relaxing music.

five of us for afternoon tea but staff used two small round tables which meant we couldnt actually sit round as a family which was disappointing as Mum very poorly. . waitress wasnt impressed that we all wanted traditional English tea... the tea was just tepid when we finally got it half hour after being seated..we were the only ones there !! When we politely asked for hot tea we got standard cafe style silver pots which had teabags in,not the glass pots used originally with loose tea. We started to eat nearly 45 mins after being seated. It was an exceptionally hot day but we did not expect the jam and the pots of cream to be so warm and so runny. very disappointing experience and to top it all off, the waiter asked if we were paying by card or did we have vouchers !!. How insulting. I paid cash and gave him an £8 tip for the service but it was a reluctant offer considering what was implied.

I took my family who were visiting from Australia to experience an English afternoon tea and they absolutely loved it! Everything was exceptional, from smelling and choosing your own teas through to champagne and decadent cakes, it was all wonderfully presented and delicious.
A lovely afternoon out in beautiful surrounds and great value as well!

This is the loveliest afternoon tea I have ever had. The lady that served us was so friendly! The sandwiches were beautiful, the tea was gorgeous and the desserts were absolutely delicious. My favourite was the scones, as you could quite clearly see were fresh and homemade. Overall lovely experience.

Birthday treat for a 93 year old. Absolutely loved it. Loved the tea pots and the egg timers. Attention to detail from our waiter was first class. Have booked to go back next week
