Housed within a quirky restored barn, The Sheppey Inn is a contemporary country pub near Wells. Just 5 minutes from Glastonbury, The Sheppey pulls in a diverse crowd with live music from a range of eclectic artists.

The Sheppey Inn menu features modern European offerings such as Somerset lamb carpaccio with beetroot and minted Greek yoghurt dressing, while a Spanish charcoal oven produces tender smoky barbecue chicken and roasted Somerset pork belly. Far eastern influences run through the ‘Asian fish and chips’ with chilli-battered haddock, triple-cooked chips, wasabi peas and Asian slaw, and a duo of duck with pak choi, chilli, chorizo and baby new potatoes.

High-vaulted barn ceilings in the The Sheppey Inn in Somerset are peppered with skylights, and a latticed outdoor terrace area looks down the tranquil River Sheppey. Craft beer nights feature alongside live music, which ranges from blues to an innovative chilled dub folk.

In a tranquil spot in Lower Godney, The Sheppey Inn is 6 miles from the centre of Wells.

The restaurant is beautiful and the drink selection is great. I really liked the atmosphere. The menu looked really interesting with loads of different dishes, however the food was distinctly average. There was five in our group, we all had different starters and though they were all ok, the mussels and the sea food stew didn't come with extra dishes to put their shells which proved annoying. The mains were where it fell down a bit. Two of our party had beef burgers, my brother said his was so bland it was a struggle to eat, and though my dad was too polite to say anything I could tell he didn't love his. Two of us had Octodogs which were fine but the chips that came with them were only just warm. I had the fish and chips which again were fine but nothing special and the chips weren't great. Overall I'd say the food was just ok but the restaurant was lovely. I enjoyed it's vibe. I would go back again to drink but probably not to eat.

On a separate note, the place really needs more parking. There are only a few spaces and the place must have at least 30 tables. Be prepared to park at the side of a country lane.

Atmospheregreat. Food is great. Eaten here twice now. Only drawback for me was the winelist. Way too expensive.

We loved the atmosphere and the dining area, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Food was excellent - I loved the gnocchi.

Everything was lovely! But we found the music a little too loud for lunchtime.

disappointed that Xmas menu was advertised on website but not able to have it as apparently it had to be pre booked and only for parties larger than 6. That wasnt clear from the website. The other food is good but perhaps a bit more choice. Ham and Eggs has been on there a long time !

The Sheppey is a friendly, rather quirky venue set in a lovely location on the Avalon Marshes. A little out of the way along mainly single tracked lanes edged by rhynes and willows but most definitely worth the journey. The food is absolutely delicious and imaginatively presented. I have recommended it to many of my foodie friends. It's a must to visit.

Loo could do with a tidy up.
