Found within one of London’s most famous 5-star hotels, The Thames Foyer at The Savoy offers its acclaimed afternoon tea. A domed glass ceiling floods this space with natural light, and a live pianist offers a calming musical accompaniment.
A long-time member of the benchmark-setting Tea Guild, The Savoy’s afternoon tea is meticulously crafted in-house by resident Pastry Chef, Ludwig Hely. Enjoy a stand of finger sandwiches and homemade scones served with clotted cream, and strawberry jam made to a treasured Savoy recipe. To follow, a range of delicious seasonal-themed cakes and pastries are served tableside from a silver platter.
Rare teas sourced from China, India, Sri Lanka and Iran are served in the finest polished silverware and delicate china tea ware, while flutes of chilled champagne can be selected for an extra-indulgent afternoon tea in London. Guests can also visit the on-site patisserie, where a menagerie of sweet treats are served alongside chocolates crafted by in-house chocolatiers.
One of the capital’s most celebrated afternoon tea experiences, The Savoy on the Strand sits 5 minutes’ walk from Charing Cross station.

The afternoon tea at savoy was a unique experience

Not quite the same format and service as previously experienced at The Savoy. Previously, sandwiches; scones and small cakes were brought to the table with champagne/tea or both, first. Additional items could be requested (though not usually as quite enough is provided). After this, a trolley with large cakes was wheeled in with the choice of a piece of cake, from one of three, was offered. All of this was served with numerous choices of teas - several teas could be ordered. This time small cakes were brought, after the scones, and a choice was asked to be made. No extra cake was offered. The young woman that seated us was extremely accommodating and gave a complimentary glass of champagne to us to celebrate a birthday. However, the subsequent level of service was a little slow and staff were not as attentive as usual.

The food was very good, although a bit salty. The service was pretentious and unfriendly. Overpriced.

The Afternoon Tea was great. The waitress was lovely and the pianist produced great sounds. We tasted seveeal flavours of tea. The sandwiches were very good, but the scones were outsanding. A great experience and we love to come back.
