Determined to abide by John Steinbeck’s ‘live off the fat of the land’ vision, The Rusty Bike in Devon is renowned for its unique approach to sourcing menu produce. Often found foraging in forests for wild garlic, dandelions and berries, meats are supplied from local farmers and fish is only served if it’s line-caught.

Unleashing his inner hunter-gatherer, proprietor Hamish Lothian is regularly prowling fields in partnership with local game keepers, shooting the venison, pheasant, rabbit and pigeon that appear on the menu. From field to plate, Head Chef Darren Jory then turns the catch of the day into succulent dishes, including braised rabbit with pesto and risotto, and confit red deer neck with apple chutney.

Beer comes from the on-site brewery, with hops supplied from Bicton College. An extensive wine list is also offered, alongside high end spirits and homemade cider.

For locally-sourced food that cuts out the middle man, The Rusty Bike in Exeter sits 7 minutes’ walk from Exeter Central train station.

    Fantastic food and lovely atmosphere

Great venue, great food, great atmosphere, great real ales - very reminiscent of a London pub. A fab place to spend a cold & wet lazy Sunday afternoon in good company + doggie friendly too ??. Only drawback, which will prevent us returning on a more regular basis for drinks only, the price of a pint (London prices!). Real ales available at other Exeter & surrounding area pubs at more realistic prices.
