Restaurant description

With rustic beach shack style and a packed menu of Caribbean flavours, The Rum Shack Carnaby feels like a tropical little escape right in the heart of Soho. As well as jerk chicken specialities, there is a huge cocktail menu that makes use of the great selection of imported rums.

The Rum Kitchen menu pulls together all the Caribbean favourites, with plenty of colour and spice. Nibble on jerk wings, island-spiced fried squid and sweetcorn fritters, before moving on to signature jerk chicken served with additions like gravy, sweet potato mash and pineapple. There are towering burgers, and larger plates with mouthwatering flavours like red snapper, West Indian veg curry, and shredded salads with exotic fruits.

A massive selection of imported rums are served from the bar at The Rum Kitchen in Soho, which go into the celebrated cocktail list filled with signature creations. There are also beers from Jamaica and Barbados, and plenty of soft drinks too.

Also pumping out a brilliant reggae soundtrack, The Rum Kitchen Carnaby is a popular Caribbean restaurant in London that is 6 minutes' walk from Oxford Circus Tube Station.

Dishes displayed on a la carte menus are representative of the type of food available at the restaurant.

The drinks were good but the kitchen was out of a lot of dishes. I didn’t feel like there was a great deal of authentic Caribbean flavours in the food but the DJ was good and so was Reanne who served us!

A great experience on Christmas eve. The food was tasty and really authentic. There was also a good selection of rums on offer. The service was friendly and food/drinks arrived quickly. The background music was pleasing and in keeping with the theme. The decor/facilities was a little rustic for my taste, but I would definitely return for another visit.

Being West Indian I thought it was worth giving this place a try and I’m afraid I wish I hadn’t! The starters were utter nonsense for a West Indian menu. The starter of chicken nuggets were tasteless and refried before serving which made them taste like rubber, my mains BBQ chicken was sufficient however the rice was awful, completely no favour- however if you are not West Indian this place would suit you just fine as you won’t no the difference, however for those of you really looking for authentic taste try shepherd bush or Dalston. The service was slow and they allowed people who were waiting for a table to stand next to our table, which was pretty ignoring when they kept looking down at our plate staring at your food and then knocking our table...come on, sort this out, allow people to enjoy their food with people who they have invited to the table.

Cocktails were OK, quality of the food has changed and not as good as begore. The service was awful. Too many members of staff milling around and chatting to each other. When we were dining two young ladies came in as customers who appeared to be members of staff not on duty. They helped themselves to ordering from the till and when they sat down working members of staff sat with them. One member of staff actually ate and drank with them. We were not asked once if our order was OK and the attitude of some of the waiting staff was complete arrogance.

I really enjoyed my evening post carnival. It was marred by the incident of a stolen bag from one of your overseas customers who was told to leave it at the front I. An I observed area. She lost her passport and everything. Rum Kitchen you must do better than that...
