We often go to see the jazz group that plays the first Thursday of the month and book a table as close to them as we can get. Dinner is always delicious and the wine is always good. Desert always tops it off and we always enjoy the evening.

A beautiful historic pub dating back to the 15th century, The Royal Standard Ely is a cosy escape, filled with rural charm. Modern European flavours are served alongside cask ales, with a tranquil al fresco area, perfect for sunny days.
Fresh, seasonal ingredients go into the Royal Standard Ely menu to make up a great selection of inventive European dishes. To start, there is salmon tartare with apple and avocado mousse and caviar crème fraîche, along with wholesome soup of the day. For mains, there are pub classics like sausage and mash with braised red cabbage and gravy, along with juicy steaks with sumptuous sauces and all the trimmings from the grill. There are also vegetarian delicacies, and a dedicated kids' menu.
Sunday roasts at The Royal Standard Ely are extremely popular, while the dessert menu offers tempting treats like steamed treacle pudding with fruit compote and double cream ice cream. There are cask ales at the pumps, world beers, and a concise wine list.
Also offering popular live music events, The Royal Standard Ely is a 13-minute walk from Ely Rail Station.

Enjoyed an absolutely perfect ribeye steak. Cooked perfectly with delicious chunky chips and garlic mushers. Lovely bottle of Rioja too.

We chose the Royal Standard as our daughter was returning from Uni for her Birthday and it isn't far from the station. Ideal as it was 8pm before her train came in. Hadn't been to the RS for years and my word has it changed. The restaurant was warm and comfortable. We were waited on by Stephen who was very good at his job and made sure we were well looked after with both food and drink . We had olives and bread & oils for starters as we didn't want to fill ourselves up too much for the main course. 3 of our party had rump steak with a selection of chunky chips, sautéed mushrooms and onion rings whilst the 4th had a burger. The food was fantastic. The meat was cooked just how we liked it. Two were rare and one medium-rare. The chips and mushrooms were delicious and I can honestly say the onion rings were the best I have ever had. Properly cooked with a light batter, none of this pastey rubbish you get elsewhere and they were enormous. The burger was very good as well with just the right amount of cheese, sauce and chips to go with it. We were planning to have a dessert but we too full this time but we will be back and we will give them a go next time. Well done The Royal Standard.

The food and service was excellent - definitely recommend it.
Only reason it is not 5 stars was due to the sharing platter being a bit sparse on bread to go with the cured meats.

Lovely place as usual with good food and service, although on the night we went it was a little noisy from a group on a table, but that's not the restaurants fault so didn't end up being a quiet romantic meal as expected.

Very good service and friendly too. We turned up earlier than expected and no problem. Food was excellent although we only had fish and chips - beautifully cooked.
If going to Ely again I would certainly visit this lovely old pub again.
