Deep in the Derbyshire countryside in the village of Morley, The Rose & Crown has been trading since 1786, and continues to offer traditional British pub food, with desirable seating by the cosy log-fire or in the pretty al fresco garden. Vintage pieces such as the ornate clock on the mantelpiece and old art also hint at the supposed ancient ghostly Highwaymen which roam the nearby crossroads!
Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Rose & Crown menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Rose & Crown ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.
Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings at The Rose & Crown in Morley include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.
In the remote and peaceful countryside north of Derby, The Rose & Crown is just 8 minutes’ drive from Ilkeston.

I’ve only ever been for the Sunday roasts which are very nice. The staff were very helpful and polite. I went with a couple of friends for a quiet relaxing Sunday lunch away from the hustle and bustle of some other restaurants. There’s also a small outside dining area if you like to dine in the open air on a lovely summer evening.

Table not available at booked time (20 mins late). Service variable. Waitress who served us superb, waiter poor. Food very good. Drinks choices average for this type of restaurant.

A wonderful experience, nice, clean fresh environment and friendly staff. When it came to the food we were pleasantly surprised by the offerings - the choice was not overwhelming, I found it was just the right amount variety. I started with the black pearl scallops and prawns lightly fried in a herb butter, for my main course I had the roast pork with all the trimmings followed by the Eton mess. All the food tasted superb and the vegetables weren’t the standard soggy steamed variety, my only criticism is that it was rather a lot of food so it might be worthwhile considering giving smaller portion options for those that prefer it, elderly people or those on a diet, it might also reduce food wastage. Overall though the best Sunday luncheon we’ve had in a while. Great pat on the back for the staff and management.
