The Rose and Crown on Highgate High Street is one of the oldest pubs in North London and is of significant historic interest.
Frequented so often by royalty in the 17th and 18th Centuries that the back bar was famously dubbed the 'Royal Box', the Rose & Crown has been resurrected under new management.
Gareth Thomas, the Head Chef and Proprietor, started his training at Pru Leith's cooking school. Within a few years, Thomas was training and working under Michelin star chef Jean-Christophe Novelli at Brocket Hall's Auberge du Lac restaurant. With such training under his belt, Thomas decided to spread his wings and ventured to South Africa where he gained more experience working at Le Quartier Francais, an exclusive boutique hotel and restaurant at the foot of South Africa's stunning Franschhoek Mountains which was at the time ranked 46th in the World's 50 Best Restaurants.
The Rose and Crown is Thomas' first gastronomic venture and with his training and experience, it is perhaps not surprising that Thomas' menu combines modern British cooking with a classic French influence. Open for Sunday lunch, Thomas and his team's soon to be famous roasts are ideal for enjoying with family and friends and the perfect way to end the weekend. All menus are complemented by a strong, international wine list. Peroni is just one of the lagers available on draft as well as Guinness and selection of premium spirits.
