Offering an organic, natural dining experience in rural Devon countryside, The Riverford Field Kitchen serves honest British cuisine. Alongside a sought-after AA Rosette and praise from countless national food critics, a showering of awards comes courtesy of the Observer Food Monthly.

Serving up an award-winning selection dictated by the season’s finest produce, favourites at the Riverford restaurant include chicken with basil & lentils, or courgette, feta and mint-filled pastry. Dine at chunky country farmhouse tables, and enjoy an eclectic assortment of recipes, all dished out communal-style. Also renowned for its puddings, decadent Riverford Kitchen favourites include dark chocolate, almond and raspberry torte, zingy lemon tart, or seasonal poached fruit.

In warmer weather, look out onto lush farmland from the parasol-dotted al fresco terrace, and enjoy strolling through the site’s sprawling acres: the source of much of Riverford Field Kitchen’s produce.

In an unspoilt pocket of countryside, Riverford Field restaurant sits 11 minutes’ drive from central Totnes.

The food was delicious and the other diners were interesting and really added to the experience.

We were well advised to pace ourselves and everything was delicious. It was a joy to taste so many different flavours in the vegetarian starter. The main course was brisket, cooked in lentils with more vegetables. And a real treat to have a choice of properly made desserts with real custard or cream. I didn't know that you could take well behaved dogs.

Most delicious food...especially the beetroot and lentil salad and the chocolate parfait. Liked the social aspect of dining and conversing with people that we didn't know at one table.

First visit here and was not disappointed. Had a quick wander round the kitchen garden before dinner. Then, after introductions with the other guests joining us on the table for 8, we shared a delicious meal. Interesting vegetables cooked with imagination.

    This is a lovely concept!
A field kitchen, tables of 8 people who arrive as strangers and leave as friends.
Plates and bowls of food brought to the table for sharing.
Just one choice-so easily catered for.
We went on meat free Monday so perfect for my veggie tendencies!
Only one problem really - not really enough food.
I realised this was going to be a bit of a problem when exactly 8 pieces of bread came out with the tiniest pot of butter between us.
This was followed by a smoked broad bean starter with paprika mayonnaise-you had to be very very careful not to pick up more than three bean pods or there wouldn't have been enough to go around it was the same with the accompanying salad.
The main course was a curry with flat bread (a quarter of one)
With a selection of hot and cold vegetable dishes which were really tasty but nowhere near enough potatoes - didn't like to take the last one leaving it for the man next to me who was also being polite!!
Finally we went up to the kitchen to choose from a great selection of desserts which a woman on the table warned me were huge-I opted for the half 'fruit cobbler and half sticky toffee pudding' - I was unfortunate enough to be served by the new guy who had an excessively conservative approach to portion control compared with everyone else I ended up with a desert spoonful of each pudding with a "splash" of custard - not really worthy of the space I had unintentionally"saved"
Frankly I felt a bit "seen off"
I understand that Riverford don't want food waste but it wouldn't hurt them to offer a little more.Im sure their offerings are fine for pensioners with small appetites. It I had been for a run that morning and was not expecting rationing.
As I've already said the quality was superb but at £23.75 per head for lunch I'm not sure I will be rushing back
    Sorry but very disappointing
