On the edge of the harbour side, River Grille features modern British cuisine and a sophisticated lounge bar. In one of Bristol's finest locations, The River Grille'spacious dining room has dramatic light features, sleek furnishings and striking views, and plays host to a pianist on Fridays and live jazz on Saturdays.
The flavoursome dishes on the regularly changing River Grille menus make good use of fine local produce from the West Country. Sample dishes include West Country stone bass with salsa verde, Ruby & West's finest steaks, Beetroot and ricotta gnocchi with a white wine and shallot cream sauce and to finish luxurious chocolate fondant with chocolate crumb and vanilla ice cream.

Originally tried booking by phone - both hotel (in which restaurant is located) and restaurant were absolutely useless. Much better to go online via this site!
Fish stew was pretty good, but fish and chips decidedly average.
Wine waiter seemed to be wanting to get home from his shift - he filled our glasses right to the brim in order to empty the bottle, which was not ideal.

The restaurant's decor was very attractive, wonderful lighting and paintings. Unfortunately, it was too cold to be comfortable; our party tried 3 different locations within the restaurant, all drafty (we went back to our rooms to get sweaters). Food seemed to be of good quality, some reasonable portions. Modern "take" on gnocchi was different. Josper grilled ribeye ordered medium-well was tasty, but well-done. The peppercorn sauce was mostly butter. Fries were not freshly prepared, small portion and lukewarm. The lemon sole was large but overwhelmed by the caper butter sauce (better with half the sauce scraped off). This restaurant seems to have great potential, excellent location, maybe just an "off" night. Not sure if we could recommend it or probably would not return if in Bristol again. (Loved the hotel!)
