We had champagne afternoon tea at The River Restaurant. The sandwiches and cakes were each beautifully presented and tasted great. The staff were really friendly and the ambience of the room, including the view, made the experience even better. The only negative was that we had to constantly keep asking for things, basic things like spoons for one of the desserts, sugar for our tea and even the tea itself! Maybe it was because it was a Saturday and very busy, but really a member of staff should be allocated certain tables to serve instead of all staff waiting on all tables. It didn't spoil the overall experience but had the organisation been better it would have been a perfect experience.

the afternoon tea was lovely and the decoration in the restaurant is done very well. however I didn't like how the staff add service charge to my bill without asking that is off putting and I won't be going back due to that reason.

We visited on Mother's Day for afternoon tea and had been looking forward to it for a while. On arrival we sat out on the terrace as it was such a nice day, ordered two drinks and waited 15+ minutes for them which was annoying as it wasn't busy at all. Then we were shown to our table - A horrible dingy conference looking table in a back room off the main restaurant! The main restaurant had about three occupied tables and 25+ empty ones so we complained and were soon seated in the main restaurant. It was a horrible room and there was no reason for us to be seated in there. Considering we were all having afternoon tea, it took them 20 minutes to come and ask us what drinks we wanted and if we had any dietary requirements. Drinks were an issue. Three people asked for their coffee to come after the food - all arrived before the food. The child in the group ordered a hot chocolate from the kids afternoon tea menu - was given a chocolate milkshake. I was brought a mug of tea with no cup to put it in. Then the food arrived. It was nice, not the best or the worst afternoon tea I've ever had. The kids menu was cheese, ham and egg sandwiches... he received tuna?! Some of the desserts, clotted cream and jam required cutlery - had to ask three times over a 20 minutes period for cutlery. Then when we had finished all our food and drink, we must have waited another 20+ minutes for someone to come and take the empty plates away - Didn't happen. We had to ask for the bill and even then they still didn't clear the table! The bill came and there was a £13 service charge which is disgraceful for afternoon tea which requires pretty much no service and the fact that the service we did receive was so basic and slow. We didn't pay the charge and were followed by dirty looks from all the waitresses as we left without a goodbye. Overall nice place, okay food but the service was very poor.

Lovely, calming atmosphere. The outside view is disappointing though as it's just buildings and a dirty river below. The afternoon tea had three tiers. Two finger deserts, the middle had 4 finger sandwiches (which was the equivalent of one full sandwich) and the bottom had a scone and two finger cakes. Although it all tasted lovely, it was not worth £23. i can understand including a service charge when there is a large table of guest but to add it in for two guests is a bit cheeky. Overall, it was a treat for an elderly lady who doesn't go out much.

I booked for a special occasion for afternoon tea for 6 people and I was extremely disappointed that the service wasn't great I had to chase up a glass of champagne after waiting 10 minutes and no sign of it arriving and I thought the afternoon tea itself was poor value for money. And I was under the impression the tea would be unlimited and we only had two pots between 4 of us so had to request more. I'm not one for complaining but due to it being a very special occasion fir my family I feel let down.

Went for afternoon Tea with my family. Staff were friendly and polite. They were accommodating re my sons specific preference for just chicken sandwiches. Had to ask for spoons to eat one of the desserts as none were provided Car park was very full would have been very disappointed if could not park I was told I could not reserve a parking space.
