We arrived early for our table, it was not a problem we were promptly seated, the seating arrangement was ideal. We had the lunch menu which had sufficient choice on it. I chose a menu, I'm not normally a pizza fan but this was delicious, freshly made would definitely recommend the pizza Roma. If I had to have a negative the service was a little slow and we ordered a 2nd bottle of water which didn't arrive but nothing to put me off going again or recommending the venue

Although I'd booked this online over a week ago, there was no record of the booking when we arrived (luckily I'd kept the confirmation email). However, this was swiftly sorted out by Adele & we took our table. We all chose the excellent Chef's tasting table for starter. Excellent choice of cold meats, salads, fish. Difficult not to overfill yourself, but the thought of the Bowland Beef to come kept us in check. As always, the beef was superb. Spot on cooking (2 of us wanted well, 1 pink), and a sublime taste. The accompanying selection of vegetables was also very well chosen & well cooked. Finished off by one of our party choosing the sticky toffee pudding (no one else could manage another course!).

Our afternoon tea was lovely, everything was delicious and the ladies that served us were friendly. Even though we had a problem with our booking our afternoon tea came out in a timely fashion. My only criticism is that it would have been nice to have been offered a top up of hot water into our teapot so we could have more tea with our cakes.

We arrived early, so had a drink in the bar first. It was difficult to find a comfortable seat, as most seats were very high stools. Although the barman was attentive, the room lacked atmosphere. It was very cold, we had to keep our coats on.
When we went into the Restaurant, there was no one at all in attendance. We waited several minutes before going to find someone who was tidying up another room.
We were shown to a small table near the outer doors. It was very cold, we asked to sit at another table.
The menu was appetising and good value for money. Both of us chose the Chef's Taster Table, it was excellent.
My roast beef was exactly how I like it -a couple of thick slices, pink and tender, not smothered in gravy, as that came in a separate jug. My roast potatoes however were cold. I did not send them back as there were plenty of other vegetables, all piping hot and cooked to perfection.
We were too full to try a dessert. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and have put it on our list to try again.

Service was slow. I had to ask for someone to take our drinks order and then the two pints for the men didn't come till the meal was served. We had to ask for them again. I didn't feel like the atmosphere was cosy. i can't put my finger on what was missing from the closed section of restaurant.
    The food was lovely though.

I had lunch with a friend and we chose the Cheshire Table. I have eaten at The Cottons before and this is a favourite choice. The quality and choice of food is excellent and very good vale. The restaurant is also a quiet and safe place. Only criticism yesterday is that when we had just served ourselves we were asked if everything was all right, which it was and then not much later we were asked again. It seems to be quite common in restaurants these days and it really does interrupt conversation. Asking once in enough.

A little disappointing. The Cheshire experience excellent starter super choice.
Mains more disappointing particularly in portion size. Fish mixed grill with TWO prawns! Poor quality chips.
Meringue on Cassis Pavlova "shop bought" very hard.
Our booking was not on the system! No acknowledgement of our wedding anniversary; entered on booking form.

We arrived to find the restaurant was not open and we were in the bar with only a bar menu. The ordered meals took over 45 minutes to appear. My smoked chicken salad consisted of lettuce and peas and a few small slices of poor quality chicken. A complaint about my salad to the manager brought the comment did I want somethings adding to it- which I refused and was told that was OK we would not be charged for it- and a reduction in the overall bill- I refused the offer of something else to eat bearing in mind the substantial wait for the meals and the lack of choices on the bar menu.
There was nothing to recommend about this dreadful experience for myself and four members of my family hoping to enjoy an end of festive season meal together. The apology was half hearted at best and we will not be returning.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday lunch. There was a good choice on the menu and the Cheshire Plate starter provided a great selection of fresh meats, fish, cheese and salad. Our group had roast pork or roast beef, both of which came with all the trimmings and were good sized portions. Finished off with sticky toffee pudding and a coffee, we were all full! There was a live singer in the bar area, who had an amazing voice and provided fabulous background music which was clearly enjoyed by the other diners. I didn't catch her name, but the waitress was lovely and friendly and very attentive. My only negative point is that the wine was too pricey at £7.50 for a glass of house red. Had we realised how expensive it was, we'd of asked for a bottle. This however, does not change our overall experience and we would highly recommend visiting Cottons Hotel for Sunday lunch.
