What better way to enjoy a Sunday than in a cosy country pub with a great selection of British roasts starting from £12.95 – served all day and evening on Sundays using the freshest seasonal ingredients.
Housed in an old coaching inn dating back to 1540, and retaining its original wooden beams, The Red Lion – Handcross is a refurbished contemporary pub serving Mediterranean-influenced British food. Warmed by log fires, the bar & restaurant features fur-lined chairs, marble-topped tables & several many-paned windows letting in plenty of natural light.
With chefs given the opportunity to train at cookery schools in Spain and Italy, The Red Lion menu features modern signature recipes made using the finest ingredients. As well as creative daily-changing specials, favourites include king prawn, crab and chorizo linguine, or spit-roasted chicken with lemon & garlic confit. A kids’ menu and Sunday roasts also feature, and desserts include rich vanilla and chocolate gelato with home-baked cookies.
The result of a treasured partnership with Rothschild wine merchants, the cellar showcases many fine wines, while token real ales and premium spirits are found at The Red Lion bar. Nostalgic British nibbles and sharing platters bursting with international flavours offer more laidback dining.
The Red Lion Haywards Heath is an 8-minute drive from Balcombe Rail Station.

Not the best service, waited an hour for dinner and it was cold. The waiter said a fresh plate will be requested, out in 15 minutes so not sure what the hold up was. We were starving so didn’t want to leave.
