Situated on the pretty Calder Park, home to much wildlife, The Red Kite serves traditional British pub cuisine in a beautiful building. With patterned red-bricks and red slate, The Red Kite cuts an impressive sight in the Yorkshire countryside, viewable from the al fresco garden for outdoor dining. Inside, candles, a warm hearth and cosy low ceilings create a comfortable and homely atmosphere.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Red Kite menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Red Kite ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

Also near Pugney’s Country Park, The Red Kite is only 7 minutes’ drive from Wakefield.

Poor service. We had to ask for cutlery and napkins. Had to ask for extra gravy that was promised on the menu. We dined at 1830 but I think some of the food had been ready since noon. Tepid at best. Requested mustard. When it arrived it was nearly empty and there were remnants of somebody else’s meal in the jar after someone else had used their knife to retrieve the mustard.

Although the restaurant was very busy we were seated at a good table without any wait. We had two children with us and they were handled very well by the team. Service was good and Bobbi our server was excellent

from the start our experience of The Red Kite was exceptional. I booked online - it was so easy. The staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. Our waitress was changing mid meal but the original one introduced our new waitress to us. We didn't feel rushed or pressured and our party of 8 all ordered different meals. All the food was excellent, all hot and all brought together. We will definitely eat there again

The staff are excellent. The food well priced and well cooked. The drinks reasonable. The ambience friendly. Good for family groups
My only disappointment is with the new slimmed down menu. Several old favourites have gone, although the staff tell me they were popular with regulars such as ourselves. It would be good if regular customers were asked about this!

The staff as usual were excellent and the quality of the food and drink very good. We were very disappointed with the pared down new menu. Gone is the risotto, the duke salad [the staff said both were very popular and they couldn't understand why they had been axed.] The sirloin stake has also disappeared. Not a very good choice now, especially for vegetarians!
