Situated on the pretty Calder Park, home to much wildlife, The Red Kite serves traditional British pub cuisine in a beautiful building. With patterned red-bricks and red slate, The Red Kite cuts an impressive sight in the Yorkshire countryside, viewable from the al fresco garden for outdoor dining. Inside, candles, a warm hearth and cosy low ceilings create a comfortable and homely atmosphere.
Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Red Kite menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Red Kite ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.
Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.
Also near Pugney’s Country Park, The Red Kite is only 7 minutes’ drive from Wakefield.

This particular experience was terrible, we waited 1 and a half hours between starters and mains, and not until 1 hour and 20 mins passed were we told there had been a problem and our meals were just been "plated up", they arrived 10 minutes later. When they did arrived, the meat was nice, we all had steak, and all were cooked differently, so we did expect some waiting, but the tomato, vegetables and onion rings were poor, we complained and £50 was taken off out bill. There was 4 of us and we spend £130 so it wasn't a cheap meal. We come here twice a year as it is usually good, so we have returned with confidence. We will now look else where,

The staff member was overstretched with the number of diners in the section BUT he was absolutely delightful and a very nice lad. The service was a bit slow (but it was busy) . Parents had gammon and this seemed lovely & they enjoyed it . My son had lunchtime menu ‘fish and chips ‘ and I had fish finger sandwich; neither of us particularly enjoyed it. The fish wasn’t that warm and the batter was soggy; especially mine as the sparse amount of fish fingers were it coated in tartare sauce and the bread was very heavy (We left a lot) - it was a bit disappointing. My son loves your chocolate brownie though!!

Of the five of us dining, two of us were very disappointed. The steak and ale pie was dreadful with tough and grisly meat - the replacement chicken pie was equally bad, pastry not cooked all the way through and the ‘sauce’ was more like gel. The Hunters chicken dish was part gammon which was inedible it was so fatty and grisly. The service this time was very slow, it appeared to be due to staff shortage. We are quite regular customers and usually highly satisfied but not this time.

The service was excellent on both nights ,but I found the prices rather high.£16.50 for the sea bass, not even any veg just 2 pieces of asparagus and loads of potatoes,Fish is normally a light option and not bulked out with potato. The Sunday roast was tasty, I had the lamb but a shame the potatoes were burnt and the Yorkshire pudding cooked to a crisp.

Poor service. We had to ask for cutlery and napkins. Had to ask for extra gravy that was promised on the menu. We dined at 1830 but I think some of the food had been ready since noon. Tepid at best. Requested mustard. When it arrived it was nearly empty and there were remnants of somebody else’s meal in the jar after someone else had used their knife to retrieve the mustard.
