Taking its name from an old local rhyme, The Red Cow near Leicester has been refreshing its guests since the 17th century. It offers well-loved British pub cuisine which can be enjoyed from the pretty beer garden in summer or by the hearth in winter. Furnished with rustic oak beams and eclectic trinkets, The Red Cow is a peaceful country retreat.
Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Red Cow menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Red Cow ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.
Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.
The Red Cow resides in the countryside just outside of Leicester, 5 minutes’ drive away.

The food was extremely poor. I honestly can’t believe the chef would even be happy enough to send it out like it was. My friends ham was green, we had beef sandwiches on toasted bread that were so dry it was actually uncomfortable on your mouth to eat. No butter in the sandwiches and the tiniest pot of sauce on the side which didn’t help the sandwich at all. We weren’t even asked by our waiter how the food was and whether we enjoyed it. The drinks took exceptionally long to make and my other friends water didn’t even arrive until almost the end of the meal. It’s so disappointing because this would always be our first choice for a work pub lunch but after this we will be using one of the other local pubs instead.

We were a party of six re-cycled teenagers who were welcomed warmly and directed to a table which had been prepared ready for our visit. The table was close to a lovely log fire and on such a cold day, this was much appreciated. We chose the lunch menu, some having starter and main, others main and dessert. The food was well presented and, (which is not always the case at some venues) HOT. The atmosphere was warm and friendly and we have made a reservation to return in April. The only criticism was that there appeared to be a shortage of staff, there being only two to deal with everything on a fairly busy Friday lunchtime.
