As New York restaurants go, The Red Cat in Chelsea is something of an original.
Although set in a characteristic Chelsea building, the interior has a classic New England feel, with typical red and white features. Combining past and present, the décor is also unique: the wooden furniture is reminiscent of the 50s, while works from local artists adorning the walls give the restaurant a modern vibe.
Things here are easygoing and simple; that is, apart from the eclectic cuisine which ranges from Tempura Green Beans with Hot Honey to Sautéed Chatham Cod with Gulf Shrimp Gumbo, creations of chef Bill McDaniel. Try some of these surprising dishes and you'll see why this Chelsea restaurant has a reputation for being a place for all seasons, styles and spirits. The impressive wine list also features over 125 wines from around the world, so there's sure to be something to take your fancy.
Well established as a favourite of New York diners, The Red Cat has been recently described in the New York Times as 'vaguely colonial and tavern like...downtown-gallery cool..modestly and eclectically elegant.' If that doesn't cover all kinds of tastes, then what does?
